The New England Volvo Commericial: Offensive

The current New England Volvo commercial has to be the most offensive commercial to come down the "pike" in years.

They have a mock newsman reporting that people are living longer and cause world over population because they are driving Volvo's. By implication he is saying people are living longer because they are not getting killed in as many auto accidents because they are driving Volvo's.

Why don't they just come out and say it:

"DRIVE A VOLVO AND YOU WON'T GET KILLED IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT."

Not true, of course but it least it is more direct. Who creates these works of drek for N.E Volvo and worse yet who are the idiot executives at Volvo who go along with this offensive crap.

Maybe it's because there are at least one or two stupid drivers who will deliberately drive on the wrong side of the interstate...just to prove that the Volvo announcer is WRONG?

It's a "great" ad! Thanks to Adelphia's overshowing of it, my wife is off of this idea she had about wanting a Volvo. Last night she literally said, "that's it, that stupid ad has convinced me NOT to buy a Volvo...ever!" Thank God, 'cause I didn't want a damn Volvo - so it's good for me.

But, in reality it is a horrible ad! It's new, yet our cable company has managed to already wear it out. In one stop set, Adelphia managed to play it 3 times (during Mythbusters)! Adelphia has this awful habit of cutting in the same 3 or 4 local ads and it is SOOOOO redundant while watching any of the cable channels.

They've really worn out those stupid "Fitness Made Simple" and "Sandals" ads too. You can easily tell that they come from the local cable company because they are sloppily inserted about one second behind whatever ad is coming off the bird. That, and they're also 10 dB louder too!

I think that is actually a pretty funny way to go about it. Anyone, however, that has lost someone due to a car accident probably won't find it funny.

I dunno, I thought it was creative...Ford should start the same thing...people who drive Ford's live longer because they aren't able to get in car accidents when their car is in the shop. Haha ehhh

I thought the ad itself was intended to be a rip on FOX news/Bill O'Reilly/Lou Dobbs. They start off saying something about overpopulation. The Commentor appears opposed to Volvo's "lifesaving" technology. Not a particularly good commercial IMHO but no reason to take Volvo off your list...I like the new VW commercial that "unpimps" someone's ride but it is offensive to Germans. Still, I wouldn't choose not to buy over that. I love Honda but their ads are so unoffensive and pedestrian you could fall asleep watching.

Remotely related is the current TV spot for Cadillac:

"DO WOMEN REALLY BUY THEM ONLY BECAUSE OF THE "cup holders?"

I think the car that's shown on the ad is beautiful. But the inner parts of the car don't seem to matter! As long as the coffee doesn't spill all over the front seat, any Cadillac is a sound investment! :p
