The New ESPN 1440

Hey guys how do you think the new Sports Talker on 1440 will do? Looks like it launched today... CC1
When WCCP has a decent sales department, they have done some business in Greenville which is far outside their primary signal. I've always thought a good AM signal in Greenville that is repeated in Spartanburg and Anderson could do well in sales. Sports talk never pulls large ratings but it can do very well in sales. You need all three markets covered to sell. If 1400 Spartanburg is operating 1440 and they leased 1280 from Gary Bryant in Anderson, they would have a strong sales message to deliver if the right person is out selling it. Yes, you are on AM but you can provide coverage over Spartanburg that WCCP doesn't reach plus a primary signal over Greenville all the time.

When the WORD talk format was on the two AMs, when it was launched, the sales manager at then WFBC(AM) tried to get Multimedia to buy 1280 in Anderson which they could have bought for $75K...that included the transmitter site which is now worth a lot at least twice that amount. If you are going to be a significant station in the Greenville market, you have to have coverage over all three...Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson.

Is 1440 simulcasting 1400 entirely, or are they originating some of their own programming?

I guess this means no sports talk on 96.7. Too bad, I always thought that would be a good format for them with USC.

Has anyone else noticed the low-level audio hum that is on 1440 constantly now? While most people probably don't pay it much attention, it is annoying to those of us who like clean audio.

Good local call-in show in the afternoon, and it's good to have a place to hear Kornblut 6pm - 8pm again. I have a button set on 1440 now.

Saw a billboard for ESPN 1440 and according to their Facebook page they are putting 32 up around the area. They really do sound top-notch, much more professional than 104.9. So glad they're filling a void that's been much needed in the area for ages.

I do not believe that WANS-AM 1280 in Anderson is for sale or lease. It is a hertiage tation there and the former talk lineup on sister station WRIX-FM 103.1 moved there in late 2008. Yes, back in the early 1990`s, (for awhile) WFBC-AM WAS simucasted over WANS!!! It was for period of about a year in late 1991/92. WANS-AM 1280 was up fr sale around this time and was purchase in Mid-1993 by the late Matt Phillips (founder of WCCP in 1969) who owned WRIX-AM/FM at the time. He wanted to bring LOCAL radio back to WANS. When the news/talk format rom WFBC was simu-cated on WANS, it was not promoted well. The Anderson area nees a good Oldies station. Sports is served by WCP-FM 104.9 in Clemson.
