The New Face of Soft or Main AC

Having the radio on in the background Magic just played "Life is A Highway"-Tom Cochrane.

Earlier today they played:

Two Out of Three Ain't Bad-Meat Loaf
Killing Me Softly With This Song-The Fugees

This would be unheard of just a few years ago. I guess a lot of stations are taking on the new "Fresh" sound that CBS is doing, and Greater Media seems to be streamlining their stations as well.

It's just the evolution of the format. Matchbox 20 and the Goo Goo Dolls were considered "Alternative" at one point, too. As the people grow out out of the demo, those who move in on the younger side grew up listening to different music.

That song makes sense to me. The original is familiar to many AC listeners.
From what I've seen "Life is a Highway" continues to test extremely well. Why I can't imagine.
Meatloaf's " 2 out of 3" has a nice power ballad sound to it and the album sold a bajillion copies.

If we start hearing Aerosmith, AC/DC, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Guns'N'Roses and/or other metal acts on soft or mainstream AC, we as a society are finished IMHO! Does anyone remember a certain AC's promise of "no rap and no heavy metal" on that station? Well, said AC broke that promise and goes way overboard with the metal, and not just on Friday nights either (it helped that Greg Strassell was a rock/40 programmer at WLOL before going to said AC station). Please keep in mind that heavy metal legend WAAF subscribes to the Active Rock chart, leading yours truly to declare the "Active Rock chart" as the "heavy metal chart", and of course half of that AC's music originally came from the Active Rock chart.

No, I'm NOT ready for any new face. However, I'm just 3 1/2 years away from the big 5-0 (another thing I'm far from ready for).

uuuggghhh! Not this again, dude.

I was thinking about hoe WCRB has been dumbed down and how they play David Sandborn, Kenny G and Sade as well. ;D
