The new station name for my station will be Groove 1660. Broadcasting on A.M 1660 at 100 Millowatts, Covering 8 miles in all directions. The sound quality is good TOO, because we are broadcasting at 15mhz, unlike Comercial A.M stations, that broadcast at 5mhz. If you listen with a WIDE BAND A.M receiver it sounds just like FM, other wise it sounds like a GOOD 64k Mono Stream. Here is a sample playlist AUDIO BULLYS-SHOT YOU DOWN///// PLANET FUNK-WHO SAID /// AXWELL-FEEL THE VIBE/// JIMMY VAN M-SANCTUARY/// OLAV BASOKI-WATERMAN /// ERIC PRYDZ-IN MY ARMS/// JaKATTA-AMERICAN DREAM/// BASEMENT JAXX-Rendevux// RITMO DYNAMIC-CALINDA/// DIANA FOX-RUNNING ON EMPTY// RES Q-CLOSER//// KATHY BROWN-TURN ME OUT/// Lee CABRERA-SHAKE IT, MOVE A LITTLE CLOSER//// NIGHTCRAWLERS-PUSH THE FEELING ON/// ANNA VISSI-CALL ME(CHRIS COX)/// PARIS AVENUE-I WANT YOU/// BEDROCK-HEAVEN SCENT/// LAURENT WOLF-SAXO(VOCAL)/// GADGO-SO MANY TIMES/// NARCOTIC THRUST-SAFE FROM HARM/// DB BOULEVARD-POINT OF VIEW(LANGE REMIX)/// MILKY-BE MY WORLD/// CONJURE ONE-TEARS FROM THE MOON (HYBRID) THATS JUST A SAMPLE.... I guess this one can go on U.S dance radio, under ALTERNATIVE TECHNOLOGY STAIONS, as a Part 15.

Re: Ad Another to U.S Dance radio

Your getting 8 miles coverage with only 100 milliwats?
You must have one hell of an antenna array!

We had a 10 watt airport info station back in cleveland and that thing barely made a mile or two on 1600 am.

Why don't you try Internet broadcasting?
theres more coverage in that.
Plus its kind of fascinating that you can be heard worldwide.
Anyway's it looks like you have an interesting Format, to bad your out of listening range, Id love to listen.

Its on the shed, about 20 feet up, using a rangemaster tx. Im actually having some weird Electrical interference at the moment. I didnt have this probelem last night. I hope its not always going to be like this during the day. I wonder if the powerlines near the shed are affecting it any? I actaully had it going 11 miles north last night, but the engine noise from the car killed it after about 5 or 6 miles.

Re: Ad Another to U.S Dance radio

I bet your interference is from the power lines.
depending on moisture and temperature, that can come and go.

if your getting 5 to 6 miles with a good signal over your engine noise, then your doing great.

just think, if you can get the Am transmitter up above 5 or 10 watts, you might be able to get atmospheric skip.

How's your FM transmitter doing?

Re: Ad Another to U.S Dance radio

100 mW can't possibly make it 8 miles, unless he's in the ocean. Ok technically some remnant of the signal may exist at 8 miles, but nothing you could actually listen to will exist outside of 1/2 a mile or so. Also it's 15 KHz not MHz. No one has ever used 15 MHz on AM. Also, the superior processing in place at any commercial AM will far outweigh the benefits of running wider bandwith, as those stations will have their average level above the 'mud' on AM.

Good luck.

I wouldn't add this station to any registries just yet, it sounds technically pretty flaky and unrealizstic.

> Your right about KHZ, and not mhz, Sorry for the Typo, I havent had much sleep lately, Setting up the station, organizing playlists, as well as my Real Job, that pays for the Toys for the station. My superior coverage actually did make it (11) miles, the first night I had it, but this is with the car pulled over, and the engine turned off. However I have moved the antenna from the SHED, and put it above my window, to get it away from the power lines. The result is, a cleaner signal with no crackle noise, but the coverage is less now. You can hear us loud and clear at the Pizza Hut, 2 miles away though, even with the cars engine on, it can be heard, just not as good. I think once I get things sorted out, and it becomes a 24 hour station, it should be listed some where. True, it is a bit Flaky, and Buggy now, But my playlist definately kicks some serious Butt, It focuses on GOOD dance music, not always just the Flovor of the week, Current Singles. Do you have any suggestions on how I can make it better WES? I am open to suggestions.

Re: Ad Another to U.S Dance radio

If you're insistant on using AM, find a used Orban 9100 B1. I won't lie, it's going to cost you even used, but there is no substitute on AM, do not even waste your time on music store stuff it doesn't cut it on FM and sure as hell won't on AM.

Quit worrying about your antenna and focus on a decent ground system. In addition to being way more effective for AM than your arial, it's legal to do damn near anything with your ground system, and there's little the FCC can do. Any serious AM spends lots of time/money on the ground system and trying to keep it as soaking wet as possible. Be like them.

Don't waste time and modulation trying to run 15Khz on AM, no receiver can deal with it. DO run 10 Khz and you'll sound the best on the dial, and probably much louder than your 'competition' too (again with a 9100 B1).

Musically, get a scheduler and learn how to use the damn thing. Playing DJ is fun for a week, then you and your listeners will be sick of it. Learn to organize music and build a decent clock. Then learn what rotations are and how to balance your library against how current you want to sound.

I noticed the comment about flavor of the week. Here's the previaling logic: Burn them out on new songs and you can replace the songs, burn them out on old songs and you're screwed forever. There is only one way to turn dance into a library/gold based format...go disco/80's techno. Otherwise, pay attention to what other current based dance stations do. They're not doing flavor of the week because they're mean bad people who like to make you suffer and writhe in pain.

That's all the advice I can think of.

I just rotate the music, Gold and New. Since, most of these songs are NEW to my listeners, as well as rating currents higher, than gold. Ive already got a Killer Ground System, thats How ive been getting such good coverage. Its grounded to PIPES under the house. PLus I dug a big Hole and Put SALT in it, to help the ground system. I am pretty Happy with my sound quality, it is way better than I expected from A.M. Its clean, and has no distortian, and it is very loud. It sounds especially good on a G.E super radio. I used to re broadcast Internet stations all the time, over the F.M, but I decided to do my own thing. Energy 98 was very popular here, when I simulcasted it.

> Energy 98 was very popular here, when I simulcasted it.

Thanks for the props!

Wes is right about rotations. There's a lot involved with understanding your scheduler. Find software that will do more than just weight the songs. If I can only listen from noon to 2pm every day - Will I hear the same songs? Golds/Recurrents/Currents? It's usually not the number of songs in rotation as much as it is the rotations. To be a good radio station you'll need to know what people want to hear - otherwise you're playing for the room of 1. Define your potential audience in your area and program to them.
