The new January 6+ ratings are in!

Also a good couple months for KEXP. Perhaps the beneficiary of former KNDD listeners.

KNUC hasn't been hurt by the loss of their local morning show. Bobby Bones was there for 2 weeks of this book.

I would normally consider myself a KNDD listener. From a completely subjective standpoint, it seems like that station has changed quite a bit over the past few months. I can definitely see why some listeners would have moved over to KEXP when the local flavor went away.

They've basically exchanged places in the ratings, with KEXP the winner. No need for a 2 minute promise when you're commercial free! I really hope the new listeners get the "full experience," if you know what I mean.

Those numbers aren't nearly as crooked as the ones we saw last April, but there's definitely some weird stuff going on there. I've never seen KPLZ that low or KEXP that high. I'm curious about two things:
1. Has listening returned to pre-pandemic levels?
2. Has the sail of KTDD closed yet?

Listening is close to 90% of the pre-pandemic levels in most markets. It is still below, however.

Star 101.5 thinks they are 'so Northwest', but in reality, they are "so down in the dumps". YIKES with a capital Y!!!
However, congrats to KEXP on such a stellar performance in the PPM. Impressive for a college/eclectic station. Tied with 92.5 and KJR? Wow!
And after trailing KRWM for several months, 94.1 is back to #1 in the soft rock race. If we get back to normal this summer, can we see The Sound return to the top 5?

I wonder if KEXP is going to re-consider their decision to begin phasing indie/alternative rock out in July with the ratings they're getting right now.

What is particularly impressive about KEXP is that they are able to beat KNDD with a FAR inferior signal. You really can't hear KEXP at all unless you are within a 10-mile radius of their transmission site. KNDD reaches the entire market and isn't playing in the same league. KNUC and KKWF appear to be splitting country music fans, which would probably be considered a win for each station. Likewise, KHTP and KUBE are splitting fans of rhythmic AC/CHR. Definitely not the same situation for KNDD and KEXP. Look, we all know that the 6+ numbers provide only a mere snippet of what is really happening, but it definitely sparks a general discussion.

As for KPLZ, they've got excellent on-air talent over there. I actually thought their rating share was some sort of mistake, as this is such a precipitous drop. Again, we're talking 6+ here, but I wouldn't be pushing any panic button yet. This could very well balance itself out in the next book.

Meters were probably concentrated on this round in the urban area.

Good point, how are they doing there? I remember several years ago, it was always mentioned they were #1 in women 25-54, but I haven't seen those numbers recently. They've always been one of those really odd stations that does well in its target but not well at all 6+.

Apart from LBB's tongue in cheek scenario, it is possible for an encoder to stop working without giving any outward indication that it stopped.

My experience has been that if an encoder doesn't check in after a couple hours, Nielsen reaches out to the station to alert them that they may want to restart the encoder, or switch to their backup encoder. With that in mind, I find it hard to believe that an encoder was locked up for an entire book.
