The New "Movin'" format.

I'm sure everyone has heard that Rick Dees is doing mornings on the New "Movin'" FM in L.A.

These "Movin" stations are popping up all over. The River in St. Louis just flipped a few days ago.

The New Movin 101.1, St. Louis.

Wow.

What a format. Awesome. Someone in Tulsa needs to snap this up.

For 100.9 To abandon 30 years of CCM would be improbable...if not ridiculous.

94.1?
106.1?
105.3?

Anybody's best guess. But based on the history of apparent willingness to flip a signal...my money would be on CC being the likely candidate to bring the format...if anybody.

Kevan Seal would be a good guy to program it. Right up his alley. Plus, he'd sound great jocking the format.

I wouldn't think that "Movin" would steal too much thunder from the Beat since "Movin'" is designed to be a decidedly more adult format. Both the Beat and "Movin'"are rhythmically-based. But they target different core ages.

Although, listening to them online tonight...it becomes apparent that "Movin'" might not skew old enough for CC to feel comfy introducing it into their cluster. I can see it potentially shaving some of the Beat's upper end. I've heard Kanye, Usher, Will Smith, Salt and Peppa...

Basically...I have no idea. =) But 94.1 Doesn't have much to lose at this point. Maybe they should give it a shot.

You're all a little behind....Listen to the Beat Friday nights at 8pm, it IS the movin format. Although, it's only an hour, I don't see this market being able to sustain a station with this programming 24/7. We forsaw this about a year or so ago and added a ton of records to our gold categories, most of which are core artists for the Movin format. We have, probably, one of the most listenable CHR/Rhythmic stations in the country for the 25 - 54 demo in that we play so much gold with our currents...seems to be working so far.

Thanks for listening to us...

I actually live in Dayton, Ohio.

The last time I listened to the Beat, was about a year ago while I was still working in the market.

I wasn't aware of the Friday night programming.

Why do you think the movin' format wouldn't be supported in Tulsa?

Too much rhythmic already existing?

You hit the nail on the head. The market is too segmented already with Rhythm stations, obviously with us and K-Hits being the most rhythm leaning top40 in the country you've got the whole age cell (18-34) covered and a pretty large portion of the upper demos are represented with our stations, you'd be surprised how well the Beat performs with the 25-54s. So not much of a hole is left for anyone to squeeze in.

Plus, if there was a hole at one time we have since shrunk it with my friday night 8pm hour and the old skool weekends we do, leaving very little for anyone else to pick up and too much work to try to steal/own the image away from us at the Beat.

Believe me I LOOOOOVE the MoViN format, I'm actually surprised it's taken this long for someone to do it, but it's going to take alot of proving itself in markets that has an audience size to support it before it can sustain a 24/7 format here in NEO....

Where does KJMM fall into this rhythmic/urban battle?

They once were a large factor in Tulsa.

I suspect that the Movin' format would work better in more ethnic markets.

The reason I didn't factor KJMM in, is because their audience is made up of almost nothing but P1s. 60% of their CUME making up more than 90% of the TSL. Their listeners are so loyal that you won't ever be able to steer their attention away, no matter what the format.
