The New...New Rock Station

This board is dead...So, there's no new rock station in the market now. Which one will be the first to offer up the new rock? 97.1 just hired a new morning show, so they have a couple of books to make that work. Clear Channel already has an alternative rocker and a classic rocker. CD101 is in the dumper, maybe? Qfm is what it is, they aren't going anywhere. Come on PD's, there's a free 4 share out there for you. Who isn't pulling a 4 share?

Maybe Wank 107.1 flips back to rock? We can only hope for one less country station in this town.

EDIT TO ADD: My money is on 103.9 to flip to New Rock to compliment 99.7

Didn't the Blitz P.D. say he wanted to dump New Rock from 99.7 because it wasn't the best buy
for their advertisers? Then why would you expect him to place New Rock on 103.9 FM?
He doesn't seem to very fond of New Rock at this point.

Yeah but if I was him I wouldn't want anyone else flipping to new rock to compete with the Blitz errr I mean the Rock

Back on topic...

Columbus radio needs a new rock station like we need another country station.

There's a damn good reason why nobody wants to touch the new rock format... the current talent pool is abominable.

Here's a question for discussion.

Could local music be a profitable niche format? Could it even hold it's own on say, HD radio? What if it was produced more like a top 40/pop station with a weekly playlist and focused on rock, pop, and hip hop (jazz, country, and electronica would be relegated to specialty shows). Could larger, label-signed Columbus acts like Saving Jane and OAR fit in with some of the unsigned indie bands and local label hip hop in order to make a unique station that doesn't sound like a train wreck? Anyone know of any examples?

I look at something like 88.7 Radio U, where the production and imaging is very commercial for a very non-commercial station, and wonder if that same concept couldn't be applied to create a local music station?

Now, I openly admit I have little clue as to what I'm talking about but I figured I'd ask anyways. That's whole point of these forums right? Just figured I'd help move the discussion beyond "new rock"...
