Here's a question for discussion.
Could local music be a profitable niche format? Could it even hold it's own on say, HD radio? What if it was produced more like a top 40/pop station with a weekly playlist and focused on rock, pop, and hip hop (jazz, country, and electronica would be relegated to specialty shows). Could larger, label-signed Columbus acts like Saving Jane and OAR fit in with some of the unsigned indie bands and local label hip hop in order to make a unique station that doesn't sound like a train wreck? Anyone know of any examples?
I look at something like 88.7 Radio U, where the production and imaging is very commercial for a very non-commercial station, and wonder if that same concept couldn't be applied to create a local music station?
Now, I openly admit I have little clue as to what I'm talking about but I figured I'd ask anyways. That's whole point of these forums right? Just figured I'd help move the discussion beyond "new rock"...
