The New (oldies) 103.7

Curious why cc's 103.7 is already burying/avoiding use of the word "oldies"... Can't wait to hear how the word didn't test well! It's over analyzation of shit like THAT which killed radio. Spending oodles on research showing the safest way to pronounce the word "the", then replicating it again and again on frequencies from NY to SF. Seriously, when did people forget to communicate, inform and entertain, ya know, the original purpose for the medium.

Wonder if these corporate idiots "researched" how they should sit across from the dinner table and talk about their day with their spouse? Ah, no wonder they are single. It's really pretty simple, sad that people forgot how to be people somewhere along the way...

Whoops.. Who put that soap box there?

Your thoughts....?

Still waiting for them to change their name to "Classic 103.7", just like their Sacramento Sister Station, KHLX-Classic 93.1

I listened for a few minutes - weird. The sweepers have changed to "the New 1037," but the jock is still saying "Oldies 1037." Of course, that might have been voice-tracked a week ago, who knows.

There was probably plenty of research going back years that the 'O' word doesn't 'test' well - especially with advertisers - so why use it in the first place?

Radio programming seems to be getting more and more fickle. About a year ago, CC decided to dink around with 98.1 - changed the brand to "98-1 Kiss" (dropping the "FM"), changed the slogan to "The Beat of the Bay" and added more new music. Not more than a couple of months later, the "FM" was back, the new music was scaled way back, and the slogan was back to "Old School."

I guess the new imaging and music didn't test well, or the ratings dropped.

98.1 KISQ-FM is more like KFRC, KMEL, KXXX, and KKHR in the 1980's but in terms of 103.7 FM the promo said New 103.7 does this mean 103.7 will flip again as KNEW-FM and Talk will go there?

I doubt that seriously. First, Oldies 1037 garners much better ratings than KNEW - I can't see them flipping to talk. Second, why do some intermediate step of calling it "the New 1037" if you're flipping to talk? Just do it. Third, they just made a big deal about moving Don Bleu over to 103.7 in January. I can't see Don becoming a talk host all of a sudden.

Unless...CC decided it was time to make a big splash in the talk format with the demise of Talk on KGO. Hmmmmm...Nah...don't think so.

Let's face it. Most radio sucks nowadays. Today, for example, the midday host I usually tolerate has a fill-in...and she sucks! Click!

On political shows, I am sick of the endless rants. And hey! I follow politics. Give me an intelligent arguement why you feel this way. I don't want to hear stuff like,"well he is just stupid!" You can't come up with better than that?

Names withheld to protect the guilty.

I always wondered how did Glen Beck end up looking more unstable than Charlie Sheen. :-\

I think the best days of 103.7 were back when it was KKSF. The Smooth Jazz format was very good, and now it's an "automated loop" (sorry for my exaggerating) of classic hits stuff you hear on a gazillion other FMs, and dozens of other CC-owned stations throughout the US. Where's the "variety?"

Maybe with the NEW Year,
NEW Morning Show
They will simply have a NEW name and a NEW emphasis on "Classic Hits 103.7 KNEW FM"!!!

Well..."new" is a strange word to use for an Oldies or Classic Hits format, but there's some precedent - KNEW (AM) was "California Gold" - Oldies - in the early 70s, before the Country format.

Voice-tracked radio can sure be pathetic. I noticed that after more than a week, the VTed jocks have finally caught up with the sweepers, and are now calling it "the New 103.7."

I wonder if Clear Channel is sorry that they finally erected some billboards for the station (at least in SF), using the dreaded "O" word?

meanwhile the website STILL says "Oldies". and damn, how many "cute puppy" videos can one radio station website bear?

I don't understand why Clear Channel has been launching stations in markets like SFO, Seattle, Milwaukee, Portland, Columbus, St. Louis, etc. with the classic hits format using the "Oldies" branding. I thought stations quit using that years ago.

The slogan probably tested well in focus groups. Companies seldom make choices blindly. They usually have some statistics to back up their plans, if for no other reason than to keep from getting fired if they fail. ("Well, the pet-talk format tested well in focus groups...")

If I were betting on this I'd say that the people running CC know what they're doing with oldies.

Playlist sucks on this station.....Yawn, yawn, yawn!

If I never hear "Lights" by Journey or "Respect" by Aretha again, will be a happy man!

Clear Channel needs to listen to KOOL (PHX) to get a clue on how to program a "runaway success" Classic Hits station!!

KOOL isn't near as good as it used to be.
