The 8585's processing is essentially a "6300 on steroids." It builds on work we did recently when developing the 6300, including our second-generation window-gated AGC, parametric soft-knee multiband compression, third-generation CBS Loudness Controller, and low-IM look-ahead limiter. It exploits the results of psychoacoustic tests published very recently on the perception of loudness in the context of surround sound. If we had developed the 8585 three years ago, it would have been a substantially less sophisticated box.
