The new sheriff in town

It's being reported that Rick Feinblatt, Greater Media's VP of Radio is the new GM at WBT and The Link.

Will he come into town and leave things as they are for the time being? Or, will he start knocking some heads right off the bat?

Based on some earlier posts following Rick Jackson's departure, it seems like some changes might be in store.

This could be worth watching.

Coming in Guns Blazing at what has been the highest grossing station in the market might not be a good idea!

Ah yes but there is always a tendency for management to "make their mark" and try to make a great station even "better". That's usually when things get all fouled up! The posts lead me to believe the focus would be on WLNK.

WBT's first fm never has been anything for some reason

Maybe it's just living in the shadow of 50,000 watt WBT. They tried hard I know and had some brief moments of brilliance.

Too bad they didn't shift the WBT personality music and news format over to 107.9 when WBT went talk. Now that would have been interesting!

Is it still possible for WBT's talk format at 1110 AM to maybe get a simulcast at 107.9?, and take 99.3 to a sports format, like Fox has?

"WBT's first fm never has been anything for some reason"

WRONG!

WLNK has been a revenue leader (NEAR THE TOP) in Charlotte for about 17 years.

12+ ratings don't reflect the huge success of WLNK/Bob & Sheri.

While the Link and Bob & Sheri have certainly dropped some money into the owning company's coffers every year (much of it from syndication), it would seem that Greater Media might be looking at the facility from a different viewpoint.

Perhaps they would prefer to see the station as a solid market performer producing better ratings across the day, and as a result-even better revenues. They could still provide their syndicated shows to subscribing stations without loading the Link down with underperforming programming.

In other words, two revenue sources instead if one.

An addendum to my previous post above...

Judging from some previous posts regarding Rick Jackson's move to San Diego and another company - it's seems apparent that something's up over on Julian Price Place that Mr. Jackson had some difficulty getting behind.

It sure looks like Rick decided to "bolt" instead of handling the changes that Greater Media corporate was about to put on his plate early in the new year.

Maybe, just maybe, their plan for the Link (his pet) was the issue.

The Link hits a demographic that never shows well in 12+ but still always brings in massive amounts of revenue. The only problem is that a significant portion of that revenue is going back out to talent. Bob & Sheri could probably stand on their own in syndication, but Candy & Potter are not syndicated at all and Matt & Ramona only have a handful of affiliates. The Link is essentially having to carry two morning show salaries on its own. As much as I love the station and its uniqueness I don't see how it can continue to survive as-is in the current economic climate.
