Not in that coverage area. This is not east LA and the San Gabriel Valley, where there are a lot of second gens who grew up in LA with that low rider music.

With the changes caused by implementation of proportionality in language preference, and the demos of the South Central and South Central HDHA sampling units, we are seing evidence that this is amlmost entirely Spanish dominant over age 25, and in the "oldies demos" it is about 100% Spanish dominant.

A very good implementation of Jammin' Oldies was put on in San Antonio last year, and it made it to #1 25-54 general market. It quikckly faded, and is now #12 in that demo as the music toasted... in a market that is significantly more assimilated and second generation and beyond than LA among Hispanics.

The change in language attribution by person rather than houshold and in language dominance proportionality will make major changes in the way we see Hisapnics using radio.

David, I don't disagree - but I think that's what Glenn was referring to.

As we know, the market is younger Hispanic - not older. So a 35+ Hispanic format would seem to make sense in Spanish - not English...

Back in the mid-to-late 80's, it was brokered time, with languages
(German and Armenian come to mind, might have been others as
well). Coverage outside central LA/Long Beach was somewhat rough...
(I could pick it up, with some noise, when I lived near Culver City)

Then throughout most of the 90's, it was all-Korean, but that
format moved over to 1650 AM (???). It also simulcast with a
station on 93.5 in Ontario (that played country music before that)

The AAA KDAY!

Adult Album Alternative!

THAT's the format for KDAY!

They could call it: Channel 93.5....

Yeah, that's the ticket - no wait - that's another station in free fall....

Just kidding guys, I'm trying to inject a bit of humor here.

Probably the best thing that could happen to KDAY is having Stevie Wonder buying it and moving the KJLH format (and calls) over there...

Then HE could do AAA on 102.3 (Which covers the West side reasonably well from their tower in Culver City).

Shows how much you know about the market. The majority of non-ethnic listeners in the market are in the southern SF Valley, Santa Clarita and the beach communities of L.A. and the O.C. (and the northern San Gabriel Valley). KJLH covers the L.A. Beach Communities and that's about it.

The only signal that is somewhat viable that's not a full stick is KDLD/KDLE...

But 93.5 and 102.3 would be suicide missions for the format (and Star's newer direction will take some of those listeners).

I didn't find your comments humorous or intelligent.

WRONG!!

Here's the KDLD signal:

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM1035800.html

Here's KJLH's:

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM537629.html

KJLH does better then KDLD where AAA would be listened to. Their transmitters are within a mile of each other, but KJLH is higher in height with almost twice KDLD's power.

Now, here's KDAY's signal:

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM990530.html

If you compare the three, it's easy to see that KDAY's is best where KJLH listeners are likely to be.

Oh, and here's KDLE's signal:

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM1036876.html

It's just awful...highly directional with zero building penetration (It's only 300 watts).

Now...next time, why don't you get YOUR facts straight before criticizing others??!

You can't look at radio-locator because it doesn't take into account terrain. Trust me, I know these signals well.

KDLE covers the OC beaches better than KDAY or KJLH ever will. You need the OC coast to make AAA work - and that's my point.

Plus, you need the southern part of the SF Valley (Sherman Oaks, Tarzana, Encino, Woodland Hills, Burbank, etc.) plus the northern portion of the San Gabriel Valley (Pasadena, Arcadia, Monrovia, etc.) to make AAA work.

Granted, KDLE doesn't get to the latter, but it covers the $$$ better than KDAY or KJLH - which have huge holes on the Orange County coast.

Plus, to be a viable station in L.A. - you need to average a 1.0 share. AAA scored a 1.2 at its height on 101.9. What will it get on a fringe frequency.

Your best shot with AAA would be with 98.7 - and even then - it's a 1.2-1.5 - at best not worth it for anyone.

Stop dreaming about AAA... I doubt it will happen - unless it's 103.1 - and even then Entravision downgraded KDLE a year or two ago - to help KDLD.

You have a better shot of KDLD/KDLE being used for a Black-targeted station than KJLH or KDAY going white.

These weren't from Radio Locator...

They are from the FCC web site....which takes terrain into account.
I know these signals well too...I used to be CE of KACD/KBCD...
