The "NEW" Star 94.1

It looks like along with Jeff Dauler and the new morning show starting next month, Star 94 will rebrand as Star 94.1.

Jeff posted this on Facebook:

"With American Authors in NYC at Dream Midtown. Introducing the new Star 94 to some advertising agencies."

Strong new imaging is being put into place, too. Star's becoming a more "music-centric conversational station."

Oxymoronic, I know.

Yikes! Not sure if the difference between being 13th and being 1st is adding ".1" to the end of the frequency. That seems like corporate radio overthinking. You can schmooze all the agencies you want with bands that had a hit 18 months ago. It won't mean a thing if you can't get ratings.

I still insist on calling Power 96.1 "Power 96" because of this:

Gotta agree. Without a major re-branding, this "change" seems sorta lame.

Nice to see a new logo. The current one was launched in 1991 I believe, after a very short-lived one used from the launch in late 1989.

I remember when it was "Star 94 Effem" ...for years! (Star 94 FM) This was in the "No heavy metal, no rap, and the music only stops twice an hour" days.

Man... #13. 94 hasn't been this low since the interim period between McKee and McCoy.

From Star 94 To Star 94.1? Anything to get their numbers up.

Seriously, they have been this low at times since the end of Steve & Vikki. Scott Lindy had them back up for a while. And under Entercom and PD Tony Lorino, they've had a few good months.

I'm not putting much stock into the January numbers by themselves. Given Star's ratings in the few prior months, the January results look a little fluky. I tend to look at trends.

They are indeed making a big change with a morning show in afternoon drive. It worked for Cindy & Ray years ago, but Steve & Vikki were still there. Entercom does do well with the same setup for their Hot AC's in a couple of markets. This will be interesting.
