The new WFMX...

Just happened to notice something over in the Charlotte board: a station in Maine has taken the WFMX calls:

www.mixmaine.com

I don't know what format the station took on, but from what I could see on the website, it's not a country format...

According to Fybush it appears to be a Mix format.

In MAINE, Mountain Wireless' WFMX (107.9 Skowhegan) has been granted a power increase. "Mix 107.9" will go from its present 5.98 kW/666' C3 signal to 15 kW/666' as a C2 from its existing site near Norridgewock, improving its signal to the south into Augusta and Gardiner.

Long live the new WFMX! Best of luck to Mix 107.9. Wonder if they know the heritage behind the call letters. It's kind of like reincarnation - ha-ha!

What I find interesting is that it's not a Clear Channel station... they didn't hold onto the calls like they've done with countless other heritage calls in the past. Just goes to show the utter lack of respect the company had for the station.

I had the same feelings for WMXF before they changed to WFLB (which still belongs on 1490!) and a station in the mountains took up WMXF.
Every time I see WFMX I feel a little tug... ;)

The weird thing is that the WMXF in the mountains went rock and handed their letters to a co-owned AM which has ... are you ready for this? The same satellite format as the old WFLB. The one that is now WAZZ. If my source is correct. Of course, now, the letters are meaningless.

Actually, the former WMXF in the mountains went back to its old format, but got new letters.

And, oddly enough, we've been having a discussion about the "old" WMXF in the mountains (formerly WDLF) that is now WQNQ, 104.3 in Fletcher (Asheville) over on the Charlotte board for the past few days.
