"The NEW?"

Anyone notice KBKO now calling itself "The NEW 96.5, KBKO" and dropping "The BIG"? What's NEW about this 2 and half year old station? New PD? Not yet. Old one just left (I believe by my tally that's 3 program directors since the launch...great way to be consistent CC!). I don't hear 20 in a row, but everything else seems to be the same...'cept the slogan..."Bakersfield Country". My guess is that with Rick Michaels no longer there, Steve King is taking on yet another station in the cluster (isn't Danny Spanks the only other PD in that building now?) If Mr. King does to KBKO what he's done for The Fox...I feel very sorry for Ken and the rest of the on air staff and for their sales team.

Anyone have any advice for CC on this project (short of flipping formats?). How would you go after KUZZ?

why don't they switch back to kiss? cc should just admit that they made a mistake like channel 104.9 in san jose

Well,

Caught my other half listening to the NEW 96.5 yesterday. I warned her, that when we're in Bakersfield, we don't listen to country music on anything else other than Buck's stations.

Think she got the picture, but it did give me a chance to notice how amateurish the station still sounds... Maybe that's why they call it the NEW 96.5 now...

I think they should just blow it up and call it KEN 96.5 next.....

Then again, if CC ever puts a jack-esque type station on the air, it would surely be named "STEVE" wouldn't it?

First off...KBKO is probably making a hell of a lot more money than KISS ever did. I'm on the streets selling against them every day, and I can tell you KBKO is making money. I think KBKO started strong...then 3 PDs later, and no marketing to speak of, they've tinkered and tinkered...with this result. Fact is, changing the slogan ain't gonna move the ratings meter, but that's all Mr. King knows how to do (look at how he's "fixed" KDFO). Ken is by far the face and sound of that station, but he is surrounded by newbies (who the hell is Sam? What is she...17?) Ken's a pro...and one of the best local jocks in that building (though Sammy Cruise is the best tracker), but one against a whole staff of veterans like Gradowitz, Casey McBride and Chris Conner ain't gonna cut it. KUZZ could put a final nail in the KBKO coffin if they hired him away when Gradowitz retires...say bye bye Big...I mean "New".

Funny you should say that... CC has finally licensed Jack for one of their stations in Amarillo, TX. It's the ABC feed, though... so it isn't locally done, unlike CBS' Jacks. This happened a couple of days ago.

It's cheap, and it's on the block. It won't be a CC station for long. Not a long-term-planning type of move.........

I wouldn't bet on a format change... I think management is tinkering with things because of the lack of a PD. This way, they can hire someone who has their vision already in mind.

Who knows, maybe they'll give it to Steve to handle full-time.

I don't think Sam is that bad... she just sounds awfully young and doesn't have a whole lot of experience. Maybe they should have juggled their lineup and put her in nights or overnights or something.

KBKO is up to something. Calling themselves "The New 96-5 KBKO" and dropping the word "Big." I also noticed something else, don't know if Mr. King took him off either, but I noticed no "Kramer and the Big Dumb Fun Show." Sammy Cruise was on during Kramer's time slot (7-12). It will be interesting to see what happens.

Wow...Kramer checks in. First visit to Bakersfield...or at least its board? I did catch you on the afternoon show. Google me this...if a station tweaks its slogan, lineup and imaging...fixes its music...yet doesn't tell anyone...does anyone notice? MARKET THE DAMN STATION CC!!!! You are in a FIGHT to the death with KUZZ...and you're bringing a water pistol! I talk to client all the time that "advertise on THE COUNTRY STATION" and don't KNOW there is another one. I'm guessing the listeners in Bakersfield are exactly the same way...or do you LIKE a 2.1 share? Come on Steve...we know you read this. DO SOMETHING! KUZZ should be a 6 share...you can make that happen! But not by changing slogans every week.

NOW WHAT THE...??

Okay...NOW I'm officially confused. I've noticed this week that they're not calling it "The New 96.5 KBKO" and now they're just "96.5 KBKO". You were only new for what...two weeks? First no "Big". Then no "New". What's next...just "96.5?" In a month they'll just be "O". Clear Channel is really tinkering...and tinkering...and tinkering... How does any of this get new listeners Steve?

ive been trying to tell them to just refer to us as the - instead of 96-5 just - so it will sound like this on the air...

its taylor swift on....................left turn lavern comin up with your traffic and dont forget to listen to ken and jen tomorrow for those keith urban tickets on ..................(stopset)

huh what cha think
kramer

I just moved back to Bakersfield in February and although I don't listen to a lot of morning radio I noticed that American General Media's KGFM still calls themselves The New 101.5 KGFM.

What is new? Stations do this all the time. When does it end?

Is it 96.5 or 98.5??? Website is at big965.com but the website says it is 98.5?? What gives???

And that Samantha is a hottie...isnt she on Big country 1027 in Fresno at night?

Clear Channel swapped the frequencies of their Bakersfield country and classic rock stations a few weeks ago. Classic rock is now on the bigger signal, 96.5. Country is now on 98.5.
