The New ----

Q Tip said:
How come radio stations never drop "The New" part of their promos even when they are old.....

How come they use "new" in the first place when usually they are just recycling someone else's old idea?

good question Bob I guess we will never really know it gets old to keep hearing "the new" well back to my downloaded music on my zen player

KOGO is "new" ... it has to be "new" because it can't be the "news" talk station the promos claim.

Funny, Chris!

Sherman Cohen once told me he billed every station he programmed as "new" forever because he thought it fooled the listeners into thinking there was something happenning... Ah, Sherm.

it is VERY representative of how screwed up the business is... or said another way... the people in charge aren't very bright and think that the audience is completely stupid.

the argument goes something like this: as a potential listener is channel surfing (looking for something good to listen to), they might potentially land on your station. if they have already formulated an opinion on your station -- they are not open to giving it much of a listen and will just move on. if on the other hand they hear the new KOGO... they might erase their previous opinion of the station and start listening fresh... or if the listener doesnt immediately figure out that it is the same programming that the station has always had, they might listen longer to see what has changed.

i believe KBIG up here in los angeles called themselves new for over 2 years at on point.

in my opinion it completely shows how little they think of the people who listen to radio. they figure the people listening are idiots -- and with the kind of crap the programmers are pulling -- i would have to agree

Yes, if all the programmers were laid end-to-end.... we'd be better off.

A lot of the heat gets laid on the suits and beancounters at corporate headquarters but really radio has long had a whole lot of alleged programmers who don't have a clue, but, like losing baseball managers, keep getting bounced from one place to another mostly based on the fact they worked at well known stations.
