The next death watch

Why doesn't WKZY count? It's licensed to Cross City.

No office or studio in Cross City, it is in Gainseville
No transmitter in Cross City, or even Dixie County, it is in Trenton which is in Gilchrist County

This city of license is like a maritime flag of convenience, a ship registered to Belize or some other place that has absolutely nothing to do with the actual place the ship sails from. I would hazard a guess that no/few Cross City advertisers are on WKZY because 1) no sales person has ever called on them, 2) they couldnt afford the Gainseville/Ocala rate card even if they wanted.

I meant to say WZCC is the only commercial station licensed to Cross City (WKZY doesn't count). Of course, there are lots of stations serving the area.

The statement said nothing about studios/tx being in Cross City, just being licensed. WKTK is licensed to Crystal River, studios/tx there? Nope! WHHZ, Newberry. studios/tx? nope! Advertisers? Yup!

and yes, Cross City businesses have advertised on WKZY before. Because of WKZY's COL being Cross City, they still have a manned office and studio in Trenton serving the people of Dixie and Gilchrist county.

This wasn't one of my better worded posts! What I meant was...

WZCC pretty much has Cross City all to itself as far as a local commercial radio station which could mean a chance for success if they are willing (i.e. spend the bucks) to promote and program for Cross City. WKZY is not concerned with what is going on in Cross City as they are identifying themselves as a Gainesville station. I assume the only time Cross City is mentioned is once an hour in the legal ID.

All that being said, AM radio is still a tough business but being the only game (mostly) in town could help. There are always church announcements, funeral notices, high school sports, involvement with civic clubs and the chamber of commerce to get the word out that 1240 is back. All hard work, of course, but it might pay off if people start looking to the station for local info.

I wish you the absolute best of luck and much success with WZCC. I'm very happy to hear that AM 1240 is back on the air, alive and kickin'.
