Murrow may raise from the dead to seek revenge on that comparison.

The Dude abides while almost laughing to death.

So tell me who in talk radio today does not have an oversize ego as part of their makeup? It seems to be expected.

I don't know anything aboub Burney. After reading this thread, I looked him up, and listened to one of his archived broadcasts. I am at a total loss to understand what has triggered the beginning of this discussion.

The funny photo.

Goat what did you think of the podcast.

Goat what did you think of the podcast.

It was pleasant. It was professional. More like Larry King than the current trend toward fire-eaters. The style of dealing with callers was in keeping with what we used to do in local radio 40 years ago. It was adult. It was intellectual.... qualities totally lacking from today's genre of talk radio.

The funny photo.

I am based in North Georgia so all I know about the guy is what has been posted here, and what I read on the station website and his own website. If I had to make a guess, the guy is gregarious... and willing to make fun of himself in order to add some life to the local "social scene". If that means showing up at a reception in clothing that is a bit costume like, I suspect he can do it with a laugh, and cause others to laugh.

I will listen some more this week for a better picture of Burney.

I worked for a guy in a small market a number of years ago who was a lot like what Burney appears to be. My first week in town we are on the downtown square, where we are going from store to store meeting my new advertising customers. Some guy walked up to my new employers and announced: "If you mention me on your morning broadcast I will punch you out." Charlie, the station owners, did a commentary at 7:30 every morning called "Around the Square". Some days it was funny, some days it was a tearful salute to someone on the community who died. Some days he would chew people out for not contributing to some local cause. But it was ALWAYS local. His philosophy: We can build respect locally that we are competent to comment on the things we know about. We have NO credibility that we have any better knowledge than every one else about national and international affairs. We will not editorialize on things beyond our community.

The Podcast I listened to was about the problem at the high school with lunch hour. He actually allowed his guest and his callers to express opinions. Obviously, he will never replace Limbaugh in "blood and guts" radio.

Let me translate

North Georgia = McCoy's buddy = fake praise

 Wish ya would change the headline to read Murrow instead of "Rurrow" Rookie!

Even the Dude can't hit a homerun every time. "Rurrow" = Ruh Roe (like Scooby).

The Dude apologetically abides.
