The Next Format For 95.7FM

I can't imagine Entercom will keep The Game on air for another year. Any guesses as to what we may see on 95.7? IF The Game does fail, It wouldn't suprise me if they flip to some form of news/talk. If they want to go in a music direction, maybe Rhytmic AC?

Not so fast. They stuck with the Country format for several years even with very low ratings. One years seems short for the Sports format. Entercom has great confidence in what they believe they can be accomplish. So Even though the ratings for The Game are low by any standards, I bet Entercom will continue down that road longer than one year.

Maybe Entercom should bring back the Country music format on 95.7 and then buy 95.3 KRTY and create a country music station simulcast that serves the entire Bay Area. The name of this new station could be Eagle Country 95! :)

Even though ETM kept country long after it's lack of viability was apparent (not to mention their incessent meddling), it was a comparably low cost format to operate compared to sports. Especially live sports. Country had live talent earning good dough. There was an average 2+ share there as well so some revenue was generated. This sports thing is wrong, sounds awful, generates very low revenue and is losing money like the Titanic taking on water. Hard to believe the smart people in that company signed off on this. They're over confident because of their success in Boston. Cumulus...CUMULUS is cleaning their clock in SF with sports on AM. Hard to say what they'll do next beside blame the wrong people.

How about "All Court Radio" like during the OJ trial, the old KPIX ratings were pretty high. Another high profile murder case would do the trick

KNBR is cleaning their clock not because of Cumulus, or even what Entercom is not doing, but by the fact they have been around for a long time, have much greater heritage and name recognition then 95.7 The Game.

This ain't "rocket surgery":)

Even if the Game had done everything correct with talent, promotion, marketing, exposure...they still would likely be behind KNBR buy a few shares and in Cume, just based on folks listening habits and routines.

Folks who want to bail at the first sign of a "battle" either do not understand the battle, their opponent, or both!

Like boxing, this is going to go a few rounds, as we are not to the middle rounds yet.

The Game has some work to do, and anyone who thought they'd just come in and win, or that KNBR would just lie down, doesn't understand sports radio, or radio in general when a new station tries to compete with an 800lb gorilla.

If anything, their will be (eventually) a signal swap with 102.9...if the Game wants to really compete, then folks go to be able to get their signal, and get it everywhere in the Bay Area, not in spots...as KNBR can be heard throughout the region.

KNBR being the flagship station for The San Francisco Giants, has a huge affect
on their ratings for an AM station.

Yes, The Game, carries the Oakland Athletics. If this team was a power house like they were back in the '70's, then 95.7 The Game would attract more listeners.

Get out there and make it happen. :)

Wait, was that over the line?

KRTY has been around for a long time. I got my start there as a board operator (before automation) in the mid 90's. While the idea of a "Bay Area simulcast" is cool, it's not likely to happen. One can dream though. :)

But, they're not that team. Yes, they're playing better than in the past few years, but need to get asses in the seats when the Giants, Yankees and Red Sox aren't in town. Hard to do when the owner is running down the ballpark and their home city while making eyes at San Jose, which, just MHO, isn't gonna be a cure-all. The problem isn't the radio station or the broadcast, it's the front office.

Would the Niners be good on 95.7??

Take it off for 1077 the Bone

If they're still a sports station, would they make a run? One of the things you get with The Bone is KNBR, not just games when baseball is over, but more appearances on talk shows, plus offseason programming they weren't getting on KGO.
