Here's a question: How many believers would give to a radio station that didn't minister to them...but that minsitered to the lost exclusively?

I worked for a group with a mission, owned at least in part by someone with wealth. It could be argued that expansion into one wrong area led to the group's downfall, but we did our best. Unfortunately, the lack of revenue led to the stations being sold at a loss. Our benefactor's health tanked soonafter, breaking everyone's hearts. And formatically, we WERE serving our target demo with only one or two Saturday night programs straying a bit to address the youth and coffeehouse crowds (it didn't help, they weren't listening). Bottom line? Our listeners loved the station... but not enough to drive the extra length to support our advertisers when another Christian bookstore, lawyer, or body shop was closer to them.

A country station I was with had the same problem: fiercely loyal and nice listeners who would go to our advertisers' clubs, have 1 drink, spend no substantial sum of money, then go home. The advertisers couldn't afford to keep their ads on the air.

Precisely why we ought to pray that the owners or groups do well financially... particularly, those with more than one signal. The better the revenue on one signal, the more likely it becomes to minister exclusively to the lost on another signal even if that station ISN'T rolling in dough (which increases our opportunities to play the radio game). IMO, God's hand can be more evident in a station succeeding in today's turbulent environment than ever before. Then again, most of us here are radio geeks: a lot of normal people are going satellite (especially when it comes in their new cars), and internet radio may very well explode in the next decade... if the Lord should tarry.
