THE NICEST JOCKS IN PHOENIX RADIO

So, let's kick off the new year with a positive, feel good post...

Past or present, who are the nicest, most genuine jocks in Phoenix radio? Those, who are just great people to talk to, whether the topic is radio, ASU football, the weather, or Q-tips.

For me, many come to mind, but the one I've had the opportunity to work with is Bryan Allen, who does Drive at Mix 96.9. He is just as nice in person, as he sounds on the air, and a very humble man!

The Luvable One...whenever we need to know if it's raining where we are, Nurse Jeff and I tune to 92~Three!

Ditto on Bryan Allen. He is unpretentious and the genuine article on and off air.

I've worked with many talents here in Phoenix and I have never met anyone who was not nice. It's a shame that so much of radio is voice tracked. I've seen a lot of my friends loose their jobs with cutbacks and layoffs or how you may wish to label it. Almost everyone I have worked for and with has been awesome and really tries to make really good radio and most of us are still really good friends. Radio is important for all of us, go out and support their advertizers, they make it free for everyone. Yes it has issues but that another one for later.

Catfish is right...there's a lot of great people working (and unfortunately not working) in this town.

Among the working, Tom Peak comes to mind, along with the rest of the remaining KOOL staff. Gwen Foster at KMLE is very nice, and Ben (of Ben and Matt) is a terrific guy as well. Joe Corrao (formerly of KOOL, now at Metro, I think) is one of the nicest guys anywhere, and Sugabear (nights on Jamz) is pretty cool as well.

Among the non-working, Stu Evans is great, Ruben (of Kid and) is a very nice guy, and Chuck Powell is every bit as funny off air as he is on.

I'll have to agree with you regarding Joe Corrao. Great guy in person. Here are others that come to mind, but there are many more so this is a partial list:

  • Steve Douglas
  • Vince Marotta
  • Mary Reilly
  • Heather - Peak weekend/fill-in jock
  • Steve Ludwig

Although I've never met the Mojo, we've e-mailed each other and he is genuinely sincere.

A person I did meet was Charles Goyette at a KFYI Smackdown in August 2002. All of the personalities (Heidi, Heywood, Young & Jacobs) were cordial. When I got a 550 t-shirt Charles shook my hand, asked my name, then wrote my name and signed my shirt. Very friendly.

I have to add "John Michaels" to this list. I had the pleasure of meeting him when I met Mojo and Tom Peak at Summer splash and they're all super nice guys. They're the real McCoy!

Sorry, but there is only one real McCoy and that's Al! ;D I hear he is a nice guy, too. ;)

Tom Peake at KOOL,

Mary Reilly at 98.7,

Paul Peterson (He'll be back at KDKB one of these days!)

and no list would be complete without Marty Manning over at KEZ.

Well, what about the final 4 part time on air guys at KOOL? The way things are going over there, they'll be gone soon.

That's right. Sugarbear.
