The Field family, Entercom's answer to the Mays family is deeply Jewish and tight fisted and don't like country music. They changed Froggie to the Buzz. Some could argue that was a silly move considering they had KIX 106 on the ropes at times.

Dude...

You wanna watch the anti-Semitic comments? Jewish and tight-fisted?!

Geez. I thought we, as a society, had gotten beyond this -- at least openly.

I hear ya man. That kind of crap makes me sick. Aside from the obviously anti-semitic remarks expressed by DE, it is simply ludicrous to compare Joe and David Field to Lowry and Mark Mays. It would take at least two generations for CC to crawl (or slither) to a place of even token equality to the integrity of Entercom as a company. Never in the entire history of Entercom have they ever employed scum like Randy Michaels to represent what they believe in. Broadcasting history will remember CC for Mark Nutritionals, Minot, and wide scale self-cannibalization in the name of short term profits. Entercom will be remembered for Policies that uphold the good of the communities they serve. Think WWL. Get at me.
______________

Whoa! I certainly did not mean to create such a firestorm when I said the Field family was Jewish. In no way is calling someone Jewish a negative thing, or like calling someone African American a negative. I don't take offense because someone calls me a Frayser redneck. There are other negative words for that and I was in no way implying such. As for being tight fisted, ask anyone who has ever worked for the company and they will tell you they run a very tight, no extras kind of operation. That again was not a racial comment. So if I offended anyone, I humbly apologize, because it was not my intent.

As for comparing Entercom to Clear Channel, my statement was to indicate that it was another family run organization.

Today, Entercom is trading at 31 and CC is trading at 33. I got in when Entercom was 19 and CC was at a low of 22, about 5 years ago in addition to other broadcast stocks. So from my perspective, both are good companies and good investments and making me money. That's is what most investors are looking at, their investments. Do you think in your wildest dilusions that stocholders give a rip about what is going on in this market or that market? They only care at the end of the day that their stock did well.

Before someone goes off on a tear about my statements from above, it is not meant to diminish anyone's role or to make negative remarks about any particular market. It has always been and always will be about business.

I guess redneck jokes are out now as well.

Your intentions are beside the point.

If the Field family were Baptist, or Methodist, or Lutheran, would you have mentioned it? Of course not. And to use the stereotype of Jews being tight-fisted in the same breath shows implies what one may be thinking.

Dude, your slip is showing.

Now, I understand that one would never say negative things about most minorities in a public forum; it simply isn't tolerated. But, sadly, anti-semitism is the last near-acceptable form of bigotry in society. It's sad, considering the contributions Jews have made to this country, and society as a whole -- it runs the gammut from Albert Einstein to Mel Brooks. And, my children.

Sorry for getting so testy.

Not a problem.

In the past couple of years, I have gotten the opposite problem. I have to take my glasses OFF to read.

Kix on the ropes? Um, I was there for the final book. Froggy had a bloody nose, two broken legs, a busted hip and a frying pan was bout to go oops up side ya head. Life support would be gracious.

Granted that was mostly because Entercom pulled the promotion budget out from under it when they took it over from Sinclair, but by 2000 there was NO WAY that WOGY was even a factor against Kix.

That being said, if country were done right, without some stupid gimmick, it would have a massive chilling effect over in the Citadel building. Aside from that, you're rigt about the Fields not liking country. Don't even have a Country market manager and I'm sure they won't do what they should.

The 'jewish' comment??... that was kinda uncalled for, don't ya think?
______________

Steve, he said "at times". It was looking bad at the end, but at times we beat KIX in women and persons 25-54. Not every book, but it did happen. During 97-99, if we would have had the power, we could have taken them. We had a strong air staff, and the promotions dept. was great. Right Hoppy Gilmore?

You damn skippy, Splash Gordon!

A little bit of signal would have been helpful. We raised hell in those areas of north Ms. where they could hear us. We handled KIX pretty well in those rare areas of equal (sounding) signal strength.
Although P&D never handled Andy and Debby, their other dayparts took the occasional shot in the keester courtesy of some pretty decent air staff.
The Froggy stuff was silly, but there were times when that station sounded good.
It was fun to be part of and I have some fond memories.
(plus, once upon a time I got my picture taken with Faith Hill and you can distinctly see her clothed boobie touching my arm-I didn't wash that arm for weeks);>

Paul,

You are sooooo bad!!!! LOL!

Froggy was a factor then. ('97-'99) Joel Burke was a huge reason. And, we did have some fun!

Now? Six years later? Dunno. Citadel won't go down without a fight. Very talented folks in the building. Some of the nicest people I've ever had the honor to work with (Paul, present company excluded ;-).

I'm having fun again. That's all I know. And, that's a good thing!

Hey, I wasn't trying to bitch slap the frog.. you are all right of course, I was merely talking about the end, after the Entercom folks took over and pulled the plug. It was a corporate thing not local guys.

Think about it... had froggy been around a couple of years ago before the montgomery's were let go I'd bet WOGY woulda killed em - under Sinclair, that is.
______________

D,
Someone with a decent signal and a good country format could easily give KIXa run for their money. As it is now, they are the only country in town and by default, they get a large piece of the pie. I'm saying that regardless of how good the station does or doesn't sound-they win.
That also leads to a LOT ofrevenue dollars just because there is no other country. Can't do it with some weenie signal down in Ms., either.
A good signal strength, a good format and airstaff, and you could instantly carve off a huge piece of the KIX $$ pie. And that's regardless of the ratings.
Once an alternative country station was available, many country fans would check it out and a certain number would stay.
I haven't heard KIX in years, so I am not commenting on how it does or doesn't sound.
If you'll recall, the first book after Frog went off the air...KIX went DOWN in the ratings! hahahaha!
Somebody 'splain that one to me.

Having fun is what it's all about. Most of the "braintrust" that was know as KIX then is gone now anyway.

Are you still V/T 'ing, or has something else taken place?!

See ya!
