Some people are connecting the changes over at Lite FM with prior knowledge they may have had that the numbers were going to drop a bit. They are still in a very dominant position, but perhaps they are feeling the heat from Fresh just a little bit, as Fresh had another strong jump. I would also be interested in knowing how much of an effect the recent programming changes at Lite FM, such as putting on the saccharine sap known as Delilah, have had.
As for Fresh, the station is doing quite well to start off with, and is already beating out PLJ as well as sister station Jack FM. That should also put to rest, for now at least, a lot of the negative bashing the station was receiving when it first signed on, both on this board and especially on the Dentist board.
Interestingly enough, the biggest jump of all was made by La Kalle, going up half a share. The numbers are still well behind the other two Hispanic FM's, and no, I don't buy the argument about the limited signal. The signal is certainly strong in most Spanish-speaking communities within the city as well as Northern Jersey, and this jump now comes after the LI simulcast ended. Now that 92.7 is a separate line in the book, we can see that the simulcast was barely a ratings blip.
KTU remained steady, and it seems that it hasn't gotten as much of a bump from Mix going away as one would have thought. Perhaps some changes are needed, to "freshen up" (pun intended) the music there.
Hot 97 has really been sliding in the past few books, as have Power 105 and Kiss FM. WBLS has also slipped, but not by as much.
Jack dropping a tenth may be a sign of the station leveling off, after showing slow but steady growth in recent books. If they remain in the low 2's without any further growth, that is a bad sign for the station and the format.
The gospel format on WLIB seems to be making some slow gains.
Free FM is going absolutely nowhere. I realize the old argument about talk being a slow-growing format. But Free has shown no growth--actually, it's declined since signing on for the first time. How much longer will they keep it up? They're *still* doing tryouts in the evenings. It's kind of embarrassing, in my opinion.
Que Buena on 92.7 seems to have already found a small niche audience. It's certainly doing much better for Univision than the simulcast of 105.9 was.
