The Oasis train wreck

Ouch. 97.7 WOXY The Oasis is an Oldies station, simulcast with 106.7 WNKR. Not classic rock or classic hits.

So why would it play Kasmir? That was a track from Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti" album, released in 1975. The LP was a big success but the single didn't chart. It was a staple on album rock stations but not on Top 40 outlets. Its a great song for classic rock but not for an oldies station that plays Do Do Ron Ron.

There are a number of cases of songs that were not singles. They can get airplay today because station listeners recognize it and like it.

The play of gold has nothing to do with how a song charted when it was current. It's all about how station listeners like it and want to hear it today.

The Oasis has had a select number of AOR songs in rotation since the beginning. Two others that come to mind are Ten Years After "I'd Love to Change the World" and Elton John "Razor Face"

It's something different, so let's not start complaining.

The Oasis is "Where the Music Went" !

Heard today on 97.7 The Oasis — Led Zeppelin “Kashmir” into the Crystals “Da Do Ron Ron.” Wow! 🤪

Thats a train wreck even I'd try to avoid here.

I wish we could pick it up in Bellevue, but once again, we're being denied access to one of the more interesting stations in the area. This has a long history.

This seems to be an "everything that was ever recorded since the beginning of time" type station.

I don’t think anyone’s complaining about the station overall. But “Kashmir” straight into “Da Do Ron Ron” is pretty rough. Both great songs, but how about something transitional in between. And frankly, I’m not so sure “Kashmir” belongs on this station. It’s lengthy, dark, and heavy. An AOR cut like “Razor Face” is more pop-oriented by a pop artist.

Dangerous Dan Allen was supposedly hired on as music director. But two of the jocks are old AOR guys. FWIW.

If you can't hear it now, you probably will be able to soon - - -keep checking back.
I wonder if this means a power increase or tower move closer to Cincinnati, or, a translator purchase, which would of course add yet another frequency to the “97.7 and 106.7 The Oasis” mouthful. WDJO opted for something like “Cincinnati’s oldies network” once they added more frequencies.

I don't know if it's possible for them to get a power increase on 106.7 because of the proximity to Lexington KY. Maybe one of the God casters are wanting to sell? Or Cumulus is looking to unload a station. 94.1 maybe?

There is that WDJO translator on 95.3 that they haven't done anything with for years. It's still pumping out 2 watts from the roof of the Fox 19 building when its original purpose was to provide coverage to the east side of the metro.

And ClassX has been shuffling frequencies around.
