The official CC firings thread 01/20/09

The Mays' have been very open about what they are doing. Most CC programming will be national, with some regional and maybe a handful of localized shows for larger markets. Spots will be bulk sold at auction and not require local sales forces. Local staff will consist of the bare minimum necessary to oversee the robots. All within the next 18 months. This is no big secret, they have been working on this for 10 years... openly and nothing hidden about it!

I'm glad you finally posted on the Raleigh board Mark Mayes! Charlotte Biz reports today that you and CC let 1850 people go including 20 in Charlotte (See My Post on the Charlotte Board)

The sad part of this is that years ago, I could have probably stopped some of the Clear Channel agression in Florida and I didn't! To all the CC employees, I'm sorry I didn't.

(/quote) That sounds Horrific and Horrible -and GREEDY - I guess you can call me a short timer (18 months to be exact) cause I won't work for a company like that. I've been successful in this business for too long to operate in an enviroment where it is just about the money.

Right on Radio Chick! That's what CC has never understood. Maybe for the corporation it's all about the money, but to the people who work there, there has to be more. Too many of their Managers just don't get that. People can't get fired up about the bottom line. Until you know how to motivate your people, you won't win. And that's a fact.

back to the cuts - I know they gutted the promotions dept. They've got 2 directors for 5 stations and 5 remote techs that i doubt get office hours. i can't remember if anyone is gone from programming but there will probably be some if a second cut comes around. i would bet someone on 105.7 since they are stinking it up. who knows...

Which is what is wrong with radio. Not local but voicetracked by a jock who has maybe been to the market once or twice and programmed by someone who wants to use the same cookie cutter or crayon for every station in a given format. My prediction: If things don't improve at CC Raleigh by early summer, there will be almost no programming staff left at Highwoods. G105 will have the Showgram and Randi West as their entire airstaff with a few part timers maybe. Brody will be replaced by Ryan Seacrest and some other syndicated show at night to replace Geller. The entire CC cluster will sound like one big jukebox worse than it does already. Traffic run out of Charlotte or Atlanta. Why have someone local when a person can listen to the police scanners 500 miles away and get the same info? Aren't we supposed to serve our communities?
