I do believe that that's been mentioned that the calls are in east central indiana aka 94.3 Rushville and 1580 in Connersville.Ted Cramer said:Sorry to rain on anyone's parade but the calls are in use...94.3 WIFE, a Country FM and WIFE-AM, a Classic Hits AM....
WhoDat! said:by the way some of you in town may be aware of a local radio documentary called "Indianapolis Radio Wars", the war between WIFE and WNAP it played to OVERFLOW AUDIENCES at the IMAX theater, and was also shown on PBS in town, so if you think NOBODY remembers the calls WIFE....

Isn't that the frequency of the old WKYC-FM? ;D
And they go on air as Majic 105.7flip23 said:WMJI Cleveland's version of classic hits is heavily weighted toward late 60s music. They are #1 6+ and have some decent demos.

Arbitron lists the 12+ Indpls metro population at a little over 1.4 mil. Those overflow audiences totaled to less than one percent of that population.
sorry but the theater wouldn't hold 1.4 Million....
As for how well a set of heritage calls will serve the rollout of a new classic hits radio station? Look to 5pm on Sept 9, 1994. The booming voice of Chuck Riley declaring the return of "the wrath of the Buzzard." And the loud yawn with cries of "been there, done that" from the listening public.
the problem with that was they didn't meet expectations, and they strayed too far away from the Original NAP, and only used the calls as a hook "for something else"...
Now, if you want to talk about the future of classic hits in Indpls, I think we might be more in agreement. But I doubt if the emotion and nostalgia of burdening that format with a long gone set of "heritage" calls should be part of any real discussion.

Like the old saying, "You can never go home". There are some elements that you can do now that were done long ago (answer the damn phones, remotes were a personality is actually there, etc) but spend the money on advertising, jocks with a clean slate.

i think we ESTABLISHED THAT the calls were being used several posts ago, go back and read them. i just suggested that it would be great if the calls came back to Indianapolis on a Classic Hits Station. by the way some of you in town may be aware of a local radio documentary called "Indianapolis Radio Wars", the war between WIFE and WNAP it played to OVERFLOW AUDIENCES at the IMAX theater, and was also shown on PBS in town, so if you think NOBODY remembers the calls WIFE....
WJJK is more of a Q95 meets Oldies 93. they dont play the rap music or urban ac music Jack played.N_D_Radioguy said:WhoDat! said:Ted Cramer said:Sorry to rain on anyone's parade but the calls are in use...94.3 WIFE, a Country FM and WIFE-AM, a Classic Hits AM....

All that mean is that there are more than 250 [the average capacity of a movie theater] radio nerd in Indy.
Try to screen that in ANY other market... go ahead... and just listen to the crickets.
Of course, you're paying such close attention to the market, you've missed that WJJK hasn't been "Jack" for YEARS now.

Apples and oranges. Car companies sell to the public. Radio does not sell to the public. It sells to the advertisers, most if not all of whom target specific audiences. If the advertiser doesn't want to target its ads to people my age, then it doesn't have to. It's their money that pays the radio stations' bills. The public gets radio for free.
Radio:101... if you own or are PD of a Radio Station YOU ARE FIRST SELLING YOUR PRODUCT TO A LISTENING PUBLIC, WITHOUT THEM YOU HAVE NO PEOPLE NOTHING! IF WHAT YOU SAY IS TRUE, HOW IS WLS-FM,CBS-FM, KEARTH AND OTHERS MAKING A LIVING ON CLASSIC HITS? ARE THEY STUPID OR ARE Y O U SMARTER THAN THEY ARE? AHH NO...
Even car companies don't target their advertising to us geezers. They'll certainly take our money, but (taking your example) Ford isn't targeting the Mustang to me. Car companies want people to think they're "young and hip" - to use a geezer-term - by buying their cars, not old and grey (like me ;D ). I don't have a problem with this. It's always been this way.
I've seen tv commercials for the mustang, one had Steve McQueen in it, re=creating that scene from "Bullet", how many 25 year olds can relate to a movie over 40 years old??? who do you think they were targeting, sparky? there is only 1 reason ford brought back the mustang heritage! with the baby boomers, who can NOW afford one if they never had one in 1968.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY POINT! WIFE-FM WOULD ONLY WORK IN INDIANAPOLIS, WHERE PEOPLE WHO PAYED MONEY TO SEE IT AT THAT THEATER, AND OTHER SHOWINGS, REMEMBER IT, AND WOULD CONNECT TO "CLASSIC HITS" the kind of music THAT WAS PLAYED ON WIFE...

WJJK IS NOT classic hits, it is some consultants or corportate weasel's idea of a substitute, they are what they are but they wouldn't do so well with real classic hits IN TOWN.
