THE OLD 590 WPLO

OH, BTW the new transmitter can do 10,000 watts and sits in front of the current back up. They did a real nice job of upgrading the current site with a very nice concrete wall surrounding the trasmitter building. It's really a nice building with a nice big storage room. Disney spent a lot of money on the site and also did some work on the ground radials for each tower. I know, I helped and boy was it HOT that week during July.

Awesome pictures, man. Thanks. I wish my phasor looked as nice as that one. My station had a colorful history before Disney took it over. I'm the contract engineer for the Disney station in Louisville, KY. The Disney folks tell me I'm slated for a new transmitter next year. Nautel J-1000. Great box, I have installed two of them already.

Thanks again for the pix.

Any plans to up the power day and/or night? We're in Gwinnett and the current pattern doesn't throw a good signal over Gwinnett. Anywhere else in the ATL it comes in clear as a bell. Processing is good--better than one of the other big AMs in Atlanta that will remain nameless (coughWGSTcough).

Night is iffy in Gwinnett--again, great signal elsewhere in ATL. In Gwinnett, 590 is full of other regionals chopping the water.

My daughter loves Radio Disney--got hooked on it on XM--but the minivan has no XM.

BTW If it takes a pair of binoculars to read the transmitter log you might want to look into one of those trade-outs for some lasik. ;)

(Yes, I know they're for the tower.)

Glad you liked the pictures. It's a very clean transmitter building and has been well cared for over the years. Oh it's had it's share of issues but what site hasn't. I will try and post some pictures sometime of the new transmitter.

Now that you mention it, I need to visit my RD site up here. Constantly fighting the spiders and it's time for an NRSC measurment. This station up here has a very colorful history. Including the phasor cabinet having to be retrieved from a place in Maryland after it was sold for back rent on the land!
