The old WIGY

In addition to their terrible business skills, I seem to remember Rick and Steve as evil, arrogent people with no regard for their staffs. Can't speak for their other properties but it's a shame what they tore down in Bath. Gotta love what karma brings around sometimes. Any idea where they are now?

"Evil" signifies intent. I don't think they were that smart. I will agree arrogance played a big role in their downfall. I personally witnessed far too much in-office drinking, sexual harassment, financial mismanagement, etc. The duo were a disaster waiting to happen. Only they didn't wait.

The former WIGY-FM, Bath was a big ol' class-B T40/CHR-format station back in the late 80's. I was a weekend nighttime jock on the FM back then doing Midnight til 6AM right after John Garabedian's syndicated Open House Party. I also kept an eye on the night-automated AM sister station. The PD was Scott Barrett who used to like to fire people whenever he messed up on his job, which was often. Frank Pietroski was also there (he's currently on my FaceBook), Scott Minot was there, and mornings were Rick and Cindy. The station owner was Maritime Broadcasting. When I left, WIGY-FM changed call letters to WKRH-FM and changed format to classic rock. It then suffered major financial problems that knocked it off the air for a while in 1990 during bankruptcy. Today, the FM is currently owned by a religious broadcaster from RI and the AM (WJTO) and building is owned by Bob Bittner who also owns WJIB(AM) in the Boston area. I got a couple of old pix of the station back then. Frank Licata

Back in 1980....WIGY was a rocking Top 40 station...as opposed to WJBQ on 106.3 at the time....which was much more A/C....and by 1982-1983...WIGY was essentially an AOR station with a high energy Top 40 delivery. Their music at the time heavily duplicated WBLM which was on 107.5 in those days. Strangely though....in spite of the signal....their ratings seemed to be pretty anemic in those days...During that period they reminded me of the original WVBF-105.7-Boston during their 1971-1973 era....

as far as owners - REBS was the owner when I worked there which stood for R(ick james) E(rlene)_B(ob dearborne from CLF in Chicago and S(teve Hunter of WGN in Chicago) I was hired for overnights shortly after they bought the station- I did meet Bob Dearborne for a couple minutes- he came in to meet the new overnight guy at 11pm; They also bought WNYZ in Utica Rome NY - those stations had been making money for a long time- so they used the cash to buy a couple other stations (knoxville and nashville TN- but had a much harder time getting those properties to generate cash and it brought financial issues on the rest of the stations-

I was walking down the hall one day when I was in for a daytime meeting- and you could hear Rick James voice booming down the hall - I passed him in the hall while I was holding a copy of the book "Rockin America" by Rick Sklar about the hey days of ABC in new York- Mr James saw it and said 'You can believe about 70% of what you read in that book. I never asked which 70%
