The old WOMG vs. the new WOMG

So after enough time to sample WOMG, it's quite safe to say that the "new" Classic Hits 98.5 WOMG is absolutely nothing like the old one.

The musical focus as far as time period is almost the same, maybe now a bit older - 70s to mid/late-80s - but the "new" WOMG is basically Fox 102.3 with no DJ's and not the hardest edged stuff. The "old" WOMG, when Magic 98.5, played a full spectrum of 70s and 80s hits - you heard Madonna, Michael Jackson, Bee Gees, Prince, some hit disco tunes, etc. IN ADDITION to the classic rock tunes. Not on the new 98.5 WOMG. All they're playing are burned out classic rock hits from the 70s and early 80s just without a very hard edge.

I don't know what Cumulus is trying to do by going almost head to head with Fox musically, but, their best bet would be to be a 70s/80s pop/rock station that doesn't play newer stuff like Steve FM can but isn't limited to one genre like Fox. Wedge between them. The old WOMG sounded decent under Cumulus. If they don't broaden the musical focus, the WOMG resurrection will fail.

The logical thing for the Fox to do is add more of the songs WARQ was playing. If they do that, maybe the current WOMG strategy will work.

Florence has the same type of classic hits station, except it's a former classic rocker and the only rocker left in the market. Other rock stations are in Myrtle Beach, but WKZQ has an inconsistent signal.

After WARQ flipped, Fox 102.3 DID pick up a lot of the titles from there. Thing is, after WOMG's relaunch as classic hits, Alpha decided to start back marketing Fox as classic rock from the 70s/80s. I don't know why they wanted to be so similar to WOMG.
