The LDS and Utah....I wonder if there are other places around the US where a certain religious group has as much power as the LDS does in Utah when it comes to the mainstream media?

Yeah - the Catholic Church and the nation, thanks to NBC.

There's no evidence that the LDS Church requested that the videos be banned, is there? Or is it more like the stations self-censored, anticipating that the video would offend LDS sensibilities.

Yet that's what NBC did with the SNL show where Madonna tore the picture of the pope. The scene wasn't seen in areas where SNL is not live. Maybe the Catholic Church pressured NBC, but more likely, they self-censored, anticipating that the scene would offend Catholic sensibilities.

It was Sinead O Connor that did it not Madonna
Although Madonna was doing nasty things with Jesus in the "Like A Prayer" video that they had to edit down bigtime.

For a while Tipper Gore was on a rampage about music videos and song lyrics and "Physical" was one of the videos she targeted. Then MTV and Al Gore got in bed together and we've not heard much from Tipper since.

When Olivia was pregnat with daughter Chloe Lattanzi, she tried to keep her sexy diva image going, but the LP release of "Soul Kiss" netted very litle airplay and sales.

She for the most part afterward focused on running the Koala Blue chain with freind Pat Farrar until its demise in 1991. She reverted back to her nice girl image with the release of "The Rumour" in 1988, the lullaby album "Warm and Tender" in 1989 and a TV movie for Disney "A Mom For Christmas" in 1990. Despite the lack of hit singles in the 90s up to this point she has been active with raising money to start a cancer center which culminated last year when she and fellow celeb freinds walked the Great Wall of China. Her current CD "A Celebration In Song" released on EMI isn't a chart topper either...but at this point she still has a steady and strong fan-base which still purchases her releases online at her website. Don't look for her to ever revert to that short haired and feisty "Physical" image again as she continues to be an enviromental and breast cancer research activist.

Long live Liv!....we STILL honestly love 'ya!
