THE OLYMPICS IN 2014 AND 2016!

I would like to see CBC's English & French networks get the Olympics back for 2014 and 2016. They would provided superior coverage in both of Canada's official languages to 100% of both markets(and they could do multiple language feeds on cable and the internet). Also, when the NHL rights come up in 2013, I would like to see CBC bid, not only for English rights, but also for French rights for Radio-Canada. The RDS rights are so restrictive! SRC should never have let go of them.

Personally, with CTV in dire economic straits, it would make sense for the games beyond 2012 to go to CBC and Radio-Canada -- they always done so well with the coverage. Apparently, the CBC always seemed to pull it off in the past, even when the network was operating on a shoestring budget.

There's more to the story than that.
Lots of changes have taken place since CTV made their original bid for the Olympics.
At one point Bell Canada (Bell Expressvu, now Bell TV) was in the same hands as CTV, but they've gone their seperate ways.

What does that mean? Good question!
Does this mean CTV will NOT bid for anything, knowing they no longer have the backing of BELL for many things? (bell cell updates, or even Bell's Sympatico internet exclusiveness...etc)

I'd love to tell you that CTV will team up with Rogers internet and cell services, but with Rogers now owning City TV today, that too is very doubtful. (City was previously owned by the Chum group)

CBC has the free hand now to team up with Bell or Telus to make a future bid.

It'll be interesting to see what happens...

(Heck, rogers, with rogers internet, City tv, Omni, and Rogers cell service combined could even make a good bid, I guess...)

And I hope that CBC will not only bid for English rights for the NHL after the deal ends in 2013, but it will also bid for French rights for Radio-Canada. They should get a digital cable network in French for sports on that network.

I read on the Radio-Canada web page that they've applied to the CRTC for a Radio-Canada Sports channel, which would complement the CBC SportsPlus channel in English.

Yes, that would work well, and it frees up CBC French TV to air alternate programming durring the olympics that may or may not bring in better ratings...
