Hello All!

Thanks for all the kind words today.

I found myself in a new environment today. Would never have thought myself to be sitting there. The greatest feeling of all was the response from the audience. It made me feel good to do what we do.

Good luck to my former employers...

I've been informed that I'm the first person to walk directly from there to WBCN with no stopover anywhere else...Can this be true?

If so...I feel special.

Perhaps you should consider yourself lucky to be out of there just in time?

Not too sure what Entercom is thinking lately(if they think at all). Reducing listener base to about 4 people, firing one of the best jocks, and giving the station a weak re-image?

Sounds like they are trying to kill AAF.

Good luck, as was said before you are extremely talented. Use that talent. BCN isn't that bad.

I don't know. I met Hardy for the first time at 4:02 PM yesterday. When he opened that mic..and I walked in...it was literally the first time I'd seen him. I'm just flattered that they opened the doors to let me cross the street. Although I have no idea how long it will last, while I'm there, I will do whatever they ask to help WBCN. It is a sore subject with people who I used to work with, who I consider good friends.

I'm not going to take anything. I'm going to do whatever WBCN asks of me to help them win. I like everyone there, and don't want to see anyone go through what I'm going through right now. Some people have asked if it's "personal". I don't take any of this stuff personally. I had a good run. And I also had ratings success. How can I complain?

I put it this way today:

It's like having a great 2 year relationship with a girl. One day she gets up and says "we're done". I'm not going to to look back and tell you I didn't enjoy myself. That being said...if I can contribute to WBCN in diminishing the ratings of my former employer, you bet I'd enjoy that feeling.

I think so. But Adam 12 left me a really nice note yesterday that said "their loss is our gain."

They were piped in via NYC. I was told by someone at 'BCN that it's the first time someone has just walked across the street like that. I have to thank Dave Wellington for giving me that chance.

I don't know for how long, or in what capacity WBCN will want me to be there. But, I'm happy to have been welcomed. It really opened my eyes to how classy people can be. I met a bunch of sales people, and promotions people, and it was really friendly. I'm not sure how many other buildings would have been that cool to someone who, two days prior, was trying to deny them ratings and revenue.

But they're taking a huge gamble with the new stick, but they're also doing it at the right time with Bcn's ratings source leaving too. I dont think they'll blow up aaf, I just think they've made a tactcal mistake.

There was a time when jocks had a grasp of the subject matter, and real
concern for the audience. Putting down ANY audience member or critics showed a lack of class and egotistical leanings.

Today - especially with talk radio - the listener is assaulted by know-it-all individuals who have little respect for those who purchase goods from the advertisers.

It's the way of the world. Matty In The Morning and Charles have and had long runs because they delivered. There are disc jockeys in this city who have my
respect - because they give respect to every member of their audience - even if they don't agree with them.

There's real class, and then there is assumed class. Jason Wolfe has done a great job with WEEI - as witnessed in The Boston Globe's Clea Simon piece.

Sometimes radio stations have to clean house. WBCN recently did it, and maybe
WAAF is getting hip to the fact that "The only constant is change, and sometimes change is for the better.

Yeah Dennis and Callahan are the epitome of "Class" and Clea Simon? did she get the dial position and call letters correct in her profile of "1030 weei"?

It's always those who have spent not on minute behind a mic who know best how the mic should be handled. The armchair quarterback is always right,.....right?. And as someone who worked with Mark Parenteau I can tell you that your ego theory is flawed, that guy made a career of putting down the audience, critics, and anyone who disagreed with him in the slightest he lashed out personally, professionally and he's one of your heros, and he lasted twenty years in one spot. Of course his ego was an integral part of why he ended up where he is now but that is another story.

Re: The only constant is change...as in Howard Stern/David Lee Roth

I wouldn't hire Howard Stern to front Van Halen, so putting David Lee Roth in Stern's seat without DL working his way up the ranks is a typical corporate bad move. Lee Roth might be able to weather the storm, but there will be a vacuum as the fans head to Sirius (offering 2 weeks of free programming if you go through Howard's site, it seems).

WBCN still has the Patriots, though with injuries, they will continue to draw.
Change in Boston Radio is for the better - the old guard has vanished and we are currently in a weird "limbo" with little name recognition and way too many commercials. Sticking sports on WBCN and WRKO seems like a desperate strategy -a station should be able to make it on its merits, not pulling in huge draws from sources that are a better fit elsewhere.

IF we had many owners and more opportunity, great jocks would be more front and center and the lesser talents wouldn't have an opportunity.

This is coming from a radio fan. This vacuum radio has created gives other media - from IPOD to webradio - a huge opportunity. When computers merge with the car radio we will be able to get the best talents on a whim.

Many minor personalities won't be able to swim in that big pool. It will be real competition for radio and will force out those who get hired for political reasons, giving the audience access to real talent once again.

That day is in the very near future.

I cannot disagree on Parenteau's ego being a double-edged sword,
but his excesses aside, as you know, Mark has a heart.

Clea Simon was a very good writer, and still is if you choose to read her books. She is just mailing in her Globe column, though the Jason Wolfe piece
is better than most of her recent re-typing of press releases.

Sad. She's a good person but doesn't take her GLobe job seriously.
A little more elbow grease, Clea.

Dennis And Callahan are riding a wave of Red Sox popularity. They do not get my ear. I find their bigotry reprehensible - their double standards pathetic.
They are minor league Opie & Anthony types, and my view of the "shock jock"
O & A characters is quite clear. But I'll reiterate for those who haven't heard it before.

I don't listen to Stern often, he's not my cup of tea, but he is very talented.

O & A, Dennis & Callahan, they are not talented in the dictionary definition of the word as it stands for radio. Anyone could push the envelope
as they do. They are talented in being jerks. Anyone clever and with attitude could fill those seats. So what? WEEI is proving that even a mighty
Ted Sarandis is expendable. So radio has finally found what it wants -
850 AM is more important than the single personality it puts on the air.

My two cents today.

Hired for political reasons? get off of it you are on the outside and have been for years. You are not privy to the decisions that are made and the reasons for them. In short you have no idea why people are hired or fired, you have no say in it and see any of your percieved enemies as "political hirings" and your freidns regardless of their level of talent or lack thereof as "great entertaiuners" etc. You have no credibility there becuase you are so transparant. I mention this only becuase your constant attempts to discredit people who you dislike (most of which you dont even know) for being political hires etc is based on nothing, you're as much on the outside as anyone can be, even more so than the average listener becuase no one worth their salt inside will divulge anything to you because your agenda is clear.

opinions are fine, yours are not fact, nor are anyone elses. They are opinions only.

I cant say why neanderpaul was let go but Ive already said that from the outside it doesnt make any sense but it's not the first firing that didnt make any sense to the outside viewer either. He's a pro, he's a talent, he'll be fine. let's not stray from the topic at hand.

They still exist. But, they're few and far between now.

I'm truly flattered by the hundreds...perhaps over 1000 e-mails and comments sent to me since Thursday. Some of them hate the fact that I crossed the street, but understand why it was done. They're not as dumb as some programmers think. They can see through the BS.

Jason's a great programmer and they're a great station. That's from the "Duh" file.
