The Origin of Chromakey for Weather

I'm trying to help someone who is interested in the history of Chromakey technology. His questions are:

1. Which U.S. station was the first to use Chromakey (CSO) technology for weathercasting and when? Who specifically pioneered the use of Chromakey for weather?

2. What is the origin of the term "key" to designate the mode of video signal combination? Does it have any relationship to the “key” plate in 4-color printing process?

I'd be immensely grateful if anyone could at least point me in the right direction.
