The Original 93Q's "Boomer"

Too much time on my hands this evening, and I've found myself rummaging through some old cassettes, and came across one I had actually forgotten about. It is a 90 minute recording of 93Q, with "Boomer" behind the mic. The #1 song on Boomer's Top 8 @ 8 is White Lion's "When the Children Cry". #2 was a song named "Con-Can" (of which I had completely forgotten was even recorded, much less charted at #2 in Houston) however no artist was mentioned. I'm rewinding to the beginning to hear the countdown in its entirety now.

First off, what ever became of Boomer? He was the essence of a Top 40 DJ , right along with John Landers. I remember he popped up on the original Mix 96-5 as John Paul Jones, but after that...I don't believe he cracked a mic in Houston, Texas again.

Secondly (and the #3 song on the countdown was "Naughty Girls Need Love, Too" by Samantha Fox, BTW) does anyone have a bit of information that'll tell me the week or even day of when this was recorded? I don't know of a public forum that shows Houston focused song charts of any kind. Given the national chart, it would appear to have aired in 1988 or 1989.

Lord, I need to reclaim my social life. Smh...

I'm not sure about Boomer, but this "Con-Can" you speak of might be Canadian duo Kon Kan who had a 1988 hit with "I Beg Your Pardon". KKBQ also played the follow up "Harry Houdini" before it turned out to be a dud. If I had to guess by those top three songs, it would have been Summer of '88.

Kon Kan also had a mild hit with Puss N Boots sometime in early 89. Hey purple, if I could get a copy of that recording, I could probably figure out about when that aired. I've done this with many old recordings.
