The original format flip to "La Ley"

Thought I'd post this since now 101.1 is joining the fray. Hard to believe it's already been 9 years!

The format flip itself starts around the 31 minute mark. Preceding is the last half hour of Star (featuring the late great Jack Boston) and then the first 15 minutes or so of La Ley.

Enjoy...

Hey woot, thanks for posting that. That was Jack and I on the air. We were less than enthusiastic losing our
100k signal. But, after losing 96.9, STAR's ratings remained about the same - mediocre ;). Star was always the stepchild
in the building, but Jack and I always had a good time (I miss him), and the station had a solid core of fans. (loved those Jam jingles on Star!)

The move proved to be a good one for CMG. La Ley has performed very well.

Those are some of the best jingles I have ever heard on a classic hits/retro station. I think I remember hearing it was an old WPLJ package?

Yeah, it was an mid 80s WPLJ package when they were a CHR. We customized them. "On the street and in your head, Star-FM" was a jingle we used for appearance promos We did some out of the box thinking on that station. We were a Jack-FM before there was a Jack-FM in the U.S. "Hungry Like a Wolf" into "Funky Cold Medina". Good times.

Thanks for posting this... Will you also have the WZTK flip when it happens Tuesday, or do you know who will?

That aircheck was very interesting for the flip of 96.9. As I recall on the 102.9 part of the station they did it somewhat differently. The last song that we supposedly heard before the switch was Toni Basil's Mickey in english, but then the first song after the switch was the same song but the spanish version. I had no idea there was actually a difference in the frequencies and how it switched. But I am kinda partial to english speaking radio stations. I don't think there should have to be a "press 1 for english....", it should be a given we are in the USA not Mexico. In any other country we would have to speak their language or atleast try.

Clear Channel's at it again! Surf to www.laley1011.com, and it redirects to Rush Radio 94.5... they do this every time a competitor gets ready to flip a station... in the meantime, stay tuned, as the WZTK flip will supposedly take effect overnight tonight...

CC registered that domain back in 2009, when they flipped La Preciosa to Rush. 101.1 FM will be La Ley tomorrow, and I wish them good luck.

Looks like CMG got around that little obstacle; the updated website for La Ley 96.9 now includes the new 101.1 simulcast, and it now reads "La Ley 96.9 & 101.1" on the homepage...
