The Original Hot 97 Is Here!

For those of you are remembering the good old days of the old Hot 97 from 1988-93, I found this link to the original Hot 97. It has all the songs that you grew up with featuring the best in freestyle dance music. I missed the old Hot 97 and of course Hot 103. Here is the link:

http://www.originalhot97.com

There is a Live365 webstream to hear those great songs from the old Hot 97 and the original Hot 103. Give it a thumbs up.

Quoting:

Hot 97 quickly became one of the top radio stations in New York in the late 1980s, eventually beating Top 40 rivals Z100 and WPLJ in the ratings.

Which begs the obvious question; if the dance format was such a barn-burner, why did we end up with a dreggie rap station.

In 87-88 I somtimes played basketball with one of the Djs from 103, can't remember his name a tall blond guy.

Upfront I'll admit that this sort of dance music doesn't interest me but it was the processing of hot 103 that was really fatiguing, it had a steely and motonous "quality". Much better when it got to the former WYNY transmitter on 97mhz.

I liked the original HOT 97 (Before they started playing that HIP HOP garbage) Ill give this a listen!

Merci!

With the looming CRB ruling, I'd say enjoy it while it lasts...

Viva Howard Hoffman & Stephanie Miller in the Morning!

This is Great! I grew up with it, and everytime i listen to mp3 airchecks with Hot 97 clips it brings back so many memories. Hot 97 was so upbeat and had great personalities on the air. I say it was the true station that made NY feel good. They actually should go so far as to put it on one of the free HD's on 97.1 watch the amount of HD radio's being sold sky rocket. I know i would get one for that reason.
PS. SN: formerly know as freestyleluva9.

Love the Chuck Riley sweepers!

Message to the dude: when you say " rap crap" remember that back in the day a lot of the freestyle stuff was thought of as "crap" too, (and a lot of it was..lol) especially whe the clones came along, all of the hispanic sounding little girls with one name, Coro, Sa Fire, and on and on!. Some of it was GREAT but a lot of it was crap that I could have made in my house with my 14 key casio!. Remember for every ONE Debby Deb or Jody Watley there were at least TEN, WILL TO POWER's

LOl

I just tried it and it does have alot of the hot97 feel, except for one thing, some of the music is newer, but that's ok too, it gives the feel as if the station never disappeared with the exception of jocks though, unless they are using recordings, but I haven't heard any yet.

Hmm, Howard Hoffman & Stephanie Miller, I think I might even have some old tapes of that. I've been listening to her current show quite a bit and kinda hope someone calls in at some point and brings up her time at hot97, since she does like to joke about how bad her bio is (especially the late night talk show thing - and with good reason, that was pretty bad)

Much like the Original station was the best in the eighties this station if given a chance on HD Radio would be a sure winner. Freestyle was the best back in the late eighties and early nities but what happened was sad that poor decisions allowed them to stop releasing quality stuff. Awesome Job Joel!

Oh my god Broadway Bill Lee and Greg ( God incarnate) Thunder back to back? funny that these guys rhymed every break but someone would complain that Hot 97 plays RAP!. Thunder was so great man!.

:D :D

I wish they would rotate the songs more than they do!!

Geez i hear the same song 2 or 3 times within a short time!!

So refreshing not too hear songs that talk about rims, glocks and b*thch*s and ho*s.....Been hearing more recent dance music too such as Cascada "Miracle" Icarus mix,Nelly Furtado,Deep Dish.A lot has to be said about the sound quality, sweepers (awesome) and the way the song sequence just mixes in right. WoW is this what radio is supposed to sound like ??? Thats what alot of radio consultants today don't comprehend. A sucessful radio station can make a listener out of just about anyone even if you do not see yourself as a follower of a certain genre.

PS Coro is a dude.... ::)

Hmm, yeah, I think I met Coro at a record pool meeting years ago, many many years ago (memory not what it was?)

Ok, now here's the big question, isn't this station exactly what KTU should sound like? (better question is why doesn't it?)
