The Original WLIR-FM & Me!

Way back when I was still in high school,I became the music news reporter for the brand new WLIR-FM,"Avant Garde Rock radio" as it was called then, helmed by Mike Harrison(Richard Neer was there as well).
I would phone in events from home, they'd tape them and run them as the Avant Garde Rock Report;when I reviewed the then new film "Patton" with George C scott, and threw in personal politics,Mike popped a coke and told me to lay off the politics.
In typical LaLumia style, hippie that I was ,I walked away from LIR and radio, and dove into the Warhol world of underground movies and punk rock. But I am getting a little nostalgic over doing those "Rock reports".....

.....and that's why I've accepted Scotty's proposal to bring LaLumia to Radio X!I woke up this morning to a Jimi LaLumia Music Xtra News Report, and it sounds darn good, if I do say so myself!(The talented Mr. Hart was a regular at Jimi LaLumia's Record Connection in the 90s ,and exposed to all the LaLumia razamataz,as were some of the other biggest talents in radio of the moment.)
Edited by lalumia on 12/26/05 03:42 PM.

This is where I come in to mention that we are posting Jimi's reports on the web as well. Check out www.radiox.fm.

see,now even I didn't know THAT!Fact is, I think by getting the green light from Harrison in 70,71,I 'invented' the radio rock report(if anyone has conflicting evidence, please make me aware of it),as it didn't exist at the time at AM Top 40,and FM was a lot of hippies shuffling papers and playing Joni Mitchell records. At that time it was not yet fasionable to fawn over the 'celeb' aspect of pop or rock music,so I guess the world can blame that on me,for unleashing the concept on the world, and giving birth to thousands of blabbermouths in all the years that followed.
p.s. I just re read the initial posting, and that should have read 'popped a cork',not popped a coke; popped a cork is old school lingo for 'freaked out' or 'had a spaz attack'.(wow, all of that is 'old school' isn't it?)
Edited by lalumia on 12/27/05 03:20 PM.
