The "other" country station in Buffalo

I read the thread about WYRK from a couple days back. And while I'm not a fan of country music, I found the observations to be very interesting.

I was a little surprised, and somewhat disappointed, that no one bothered to mention toe "other" country station in the market. Namely, little WXRL on 1300 AM. Doesn't this staiton count? Does anyone up there listen to AM radio for music anymore. I checked the station's website, and they seem to be holding their own.

Comments, anyone?

You bring up a very good point, Jake. WXRL has a small but VERY loyal audience. The legendary Ramblin' Lou does a nice job with this station. It's what local radio should be. Clearly, it's not serious competition to WYRK. Like you, Jake, I'm not a country music fan. But I would categorize Lou as this area's most prominent country music personality.

Wow Ramblin Lou was the very first Country DJ I ever heard back in the '60's on WWOL. He probably taught me a few things about Country Music. Thanks for reminding me. Too bad Lou never got an FM station.

Re: Ramblin' Lou

...And wasn't 1300 also good enough to give a home to the classic country show that was terminated from 1220 CHSC?...or at least those announcers that used to do the Sunday afternoon show? If so, thank-you for finding them a home.<P ID="signature">______________

I hope you've had a chance to tell him that. I think that's a great compliment.
