THE "PAN AM" THREAD

I'm waiting for the storyline on the graying cockpit crew having multiple families -- say, one in the US and one in Rangoon! :D (I joke but it's unfortunately true in more than a few cases.)

IIRC, that was the storyline for "Boeing, Boeing" - a movie and play back in the 70's. I got to see a version of it played by John Astin and Patty Duke in '72 and thought it was hilarious (and potentially true). But maybe that was because I was married to a flight attendant at the time. ;D

Sadly, I've actually known of real-life, verifiable cases! And, trust me, the family in Rangoon knows about it and doesn't care.

It has improved over the past couple of weeks. The little twerp writers must be reading our thread.

I liked the "slumber party". Mainly the fact they got comfortable, not so much what they were talking about.

You don't see panty hose on women much any more except in winter when they're trying to stay warm.

I liked how they tackled racism. The black man was, however, a perfect gentleman, while the white men were mostly jerks.

The Yugoslavia situation will eventually get really bad when Tito starts singing with his brothers.

I've delibrately not read the earlier pages of this thread, because I don't want to know what happens, so apologies if this has already been said.....

The UK gets the first two episodes of 'PanAm' on Wednesday- back to back between 9 and 10.30. The BBC have been hyping this a lot, so it will be interesting to see what ratings it gets.

Looking forward to this one.

Last night was very exciting and there were some great moral dilemmas.

They put the passengers in danger, and yet the one passenger STILL died. Only the rescue of the Haitian teenager gave their actions any purpose. And they sure got yelled at. Of course, I don't blame the passengers for getting upset over losing their luggage. And in a place like Haiti, there'd be no way to just go back and get it.

I actually watched the scenes from the next episode to see if they'd do JFK. Whatever happens, it's in three weeks and someone gets shot.

Now, how do you know that whatever happens will happen in three weeks?

1.8 million in the UK last night. Not bad at all for an imported show on BBC2.

By the way I can't believe they left the line "get your fanny to midtown and sweetheart wear your girdle" intact on British TV, especially as it was straight after the watershed

While I expect the majority of British viewers would be vaguely aware of the American meaning of 'fanny' but in the UK it is roughly on a par with the 'C' word.

Two peoples, divided by a common language yet again! :D

Ten years ago my wife and I were having dinner with my Irish boss and his wife in a very elegant restaurant/castle outside Manooth, Ireland. My wife happened to mention she wore a "fanny pack" when out shopping. The boss choked on his food and his wife almost fell out of her chair...and the restaurant got very quiet. I looked up and all eyes were upon us whereupon the wives exchanged "information".

We laugh about it now...... ;D

"Comfortable" is one word for it! They weren't wearing their pantyhose either! :p

They told us, when they showed scenes from the next new episode.

This week it was the American Awards for something that for the most part was not music.

Next week it's Hallmark Hall of Fame.

Ah. I don't pay attention to that when it comes to television. Interesting that you say, "the American Awards for something". It shows that most of us don't much care about those award show thingies, although I must say that I enjoy the Kennedy Center Awards. I'll have to look into the Hallmark Hall of Fame deal.

I know what it's for. That junk is not "music", though.

I do like the Kennedy Center Honors.
