The PartyFM Listener Angst...I gotta vent

Once again, Party is a Rhythmic reporter to Billboard and they will be the ones playing, and breaking the hip hop hits before the CHR's and even will beat Hot and Power to some songs. That will help them because in Rap the thirst for new music is insatiable.

They are the only station playing dance in NY so it is actually there that they can be more patient with the music. Athough we all know that Vic doesn't play that way and he'll get on all the best dance tracks asap.

As for signal problems. I live in Long Island and I get 87.7 out there. I work in Manhattan and I get 87.7 here. The signal seems to have improved since the take over so I'm not sure there is a signal problem any longer.

well then I guess they'll be tweaking substantially because as of now they certainly aren't on the forefront of the newest hip, hop...forget about dance.

As for the signal, it actually does travel quite far east but try hitting the westside of Manhattan and it gets lost. My Sony HD receiver doesn't pick it up because of it's inability to tune to 87.75 and the car radio is too precise as well and only tunes into 87.7 thus making the station sound like it's not tuned in properly.

Time will tell what happens to Party and whether it pulls in any numbers but with it's current format I doubt it will create the kind of underground buzz Pulse did and something tells me that the average 5 borough terrestrial radio listener will have no idea it even exists..

Hi everyone, long time…

I hope what I’m about to say hasn’t already been said, as I'm not sure because my head is spinning from the last five pages of comments! ;D

Although I’m a Queens resident, I have strong ties to the East End and I’ve always supported the Suffolk County stations on the boards, and that includes Party 105 now “Party FM”.

(Sure, they don’t have Market #1 polish, but they sound lively, and I’ll take that anytime. On top of that, assuming they are being paid Suffolk County radio salaries, the fact they are enthusiastic is special in itself ;D.)

Just keep in mind, while they crow about a love and passion for dance, as it always has been, hip-hop has always been a part of their mix. It’s in the name itself, they don’t have a dance format, they have a “party” format! And as a long-time dance fan and regular on the club scene, I can attest that Manhattan clubs generally offer both rap and dance. I’d say 9 out of 10 nightclubs in NYC are featuring a “Party” format themselves.

Of course, go to some and the house music is on one floor and hip-hop on another…or the DJ plays 20 minute-to-1 hour sets of each, so everybody gets their fill. But condense that down, and again you have the Party FM format.

One more quick thought: rap music was sampling disco in its earliest incarnations. The late ‘80’s brought us the Jungle Bros “I’ll House You” which was followed by several “hip-house” tracks from artists like Queen Latifah and Heavy D. Meanwhile, dance producers like C+C Music Factory installed an MC to bring dance to the mainstream. 2 in a Room “Wiggle It”? Musto and Bones “Dangerous on the Dancefloor”? KYZE “Stomp”? These are all dance tracks with an MC rapping.

Even today, Soulja Boy juiced up "Crank Dat" with Federico Franchi’s "Cream" while Pitbull borrows beats from Nightcrawlers to 75 Brazil Street, while all genres of dance borrow samples from hip-hop, with electronica and dub leading the way. Being a pure dance fan is fine, just as being a pure hip-hop fan is too, but these are two communities that are forever connected and need each other to survive, especially from a creative standpoint.

“House music all night long?” Let’s hope so.

I'm so mad that Pulse 87 is gone. But I have to admit I find it really funny that so many Pulse 87 die heart fans can't stand hip hop / R&B and to really be straight forward with you, at least 75% of dance music is made up of HIP HOP/ R&B. Part FM Sucks really bad.

Dance fans should be happy that there's a station on the dial that is breaking new dance music and represents them in some capacity. It comes down to this. If you don't like what you're hearing, don't listen. Party FM will grow with or without you. If making negative comments to the same 5 or 6 people that respond on the message board makes you feel like you're making a difference or you have the answers, so be it. It's a free country. As far as I'm concerned, I think Party sounds great! Make's me feel good when i listen...JVC is the little company making a big impact in a big market. I've been to quite a few of their concert events. All Good! They're going to succeed where the big corporate guys fail.

Dunno if anyone's notice but the signal as been split recently. Noticed it earlier today when I was in the car as 87.7 was airing commercials local to the NYC area and when the ID, "WNYZ New York, New York" with no mention of the ID for the LI station.

And now at home, listening to both signals (87.7 over the air and 105.3 online), they're broadcasting from two different clubs. 105.3 is broadcasting from Dublin Down out on Montauk Hwy in Blue Point and on 87.7 Vic Latino is broadcasting from a spot in Westbury (didn't catch the name), each airing their own music selection.

Ahhh....it's something that I thought was going to happen down the road whereas the network would eventually "localize" to different feeds at times . Thus, the "big picture" has begun

I would think that as the new guy they should refrain from jumping on newer hip hop that is only now heard on the urban stations.

What they offer that no one else does is dance music. This music is unfamiliar to many as it is, so every other pop and hip hop record should be mass appeal and well known. An unknown dance song followed by an unknown hip hop song is suicide. Let z and now warm up the non-dance stuff, expect of coarse the major artist releases.

They also should carry or produce a dance music oriented countdown, Sunday morning's MTV Hip Hop TRL thing needs to go.... :

Yeah 87.7 now comes in as strong or stronger than 101.5 here in Westbury. 101.5 is now simulcasting Fiesta.

One of the main reasons pulse is gone is because of their frequency. I think it was something like 4 in 10 people owned radios that could get their signal. With that kind of frequency your eliminating part of your audience and possible advertising clients. No one will pay for advertising they cant here or their customers cant hear. The same thing will happen to Party on 87.7. I will say this the radio personalities on Pulse are a lot better than on party fm. Guys like andre, showboat, and lil cee would crush nikki, natalia, and pulido any day on the radio!!!!! I think Party FM needs better radio personalities. Fire those people I mentioned and hire the ones I mentioned and then you got one hell of a radio station! Really the only guy that sounds good on Party is Vic. Thats it. The rest of those guys need some lessons from real personalities.

And party FM needs strongers signals. All of their frequencies come in choppy. 87.7 sometimes is fuzzy, 101.5 is fuzzy, 105.3 comes in good after after rt 231 or something. These guys have money but dont invest in producing good, quality sound. Yet they spend tremendous amounts of money on purchasing frequencies.

Party FM- should change their staff, raise their power, less commercials, less talk, and more mixes!

Natalia had her career in South Florida. I wouldnt want to wish ANYONE lose their jobs. Okay, Nikki and Natalia may not have market #1 on their resume like Pulido has, but they bust their tail to be in this business. You can still hear Lil Cee on 92.3. You know Andre wont go back to Party, too much power issue with him and Vic. But I will agree with you on Showboat, great talent gone to waste. He should replace Chunky or at least have a weekend shift on Party.

Since when does being an intern or working promotions count as you saying someone has #1 market experience on their resume for On-Air work? It's like if a janitor cleaned up the offices, he can write that on his resume and people think he was on the air on KTU. I like Pulido on the air, but he was never a jock in a # 1 market ! . OK ??? Let's get that straight. That is soo unfair of you to say. Don't believe everyone's bio's. Vic faked his BIO too. He never worked at Hot 97. Get your facts straight.

You do realize he was on the air on weekends, right? And where did you find the info of Vic working on Hot 97? Even I know he's never been on or worked for Hot 97.
