The Party's Over In New York

Yeah I saw this coming to be honest... whatever, the reception was horrible... for me at least Pulse's reception was MUCH clearer...ah well... with the direction music is going in, I have a feeling Dance will be back in one form or another soon... 92.3 NOW - it's your time to step up to the plate guys!! just do it already!!... some may think that's wishful thinking..but then again, with the direction music is going in, it's not that off as a possibility, either NOW or something happening elsewhere on the dial... time will tell ...

The article in AllAccess quoted in the original post above goes on to say that Party will resume its simulcast on 101.5 FM, with La Fiesta reverting to its 98.5/96.9 simulcast.
The CEO of Party's owner, JVC Media stated the reason for yanking the simulcast on 87.75 was that they did not want to invest in a frequency that may have to go digital in the near future. Of course this same concern must have existed a few months ago when the decision was made to simulcast 105.3 on 87.7, so there must be other reasons behind the scenes, such as disappointing ratings.
I checked out 87.7 a few minutes ago, and hear nothing but static. So it is apparently off the air for now. That might indicate the decision to pull the plug was made rather abruptly.

I hear the crowd now about "dance music doesn't work in radio." That ignorance will take over KNOWING that 87.7 is a TV station.

To that, I must say, the reason for that was that many people were spoiled with Pulse, that those same core fans were ripping on Party for playing hip-hop and threatened not to listen or support. Of course, this is only part of the issue, I'm sure more is to it.

Ever since NOW signed on this is what I thought their direction should take. They do play a handful of tracks that Z100 won't touch. They're not going to beat Z100 going head to head with a format that Z is known for. NOW has to be on the forefront of the emerging uptempo rhythmic trend in pop and OWN that format.

CBS already has a "party" format on one of their HD-2 channels, so they are no stranger for dance. To really beat Z100, go the same format as their Mix2 HD format.

Okay,

Now this is @#$%$ crazy! This came out of NOWHERE. No warning, no hint, no nothing.

I have MANY questions that for now I'm keeping on reserve until I get more information on things. Things are still fresh and yeah, I'm damn angry about this. I'm not blaming JVC or anyone there. I just feel that there is more to it than this.

Something else is at play. Blaming the FCC and LPTV possibilities is silly. Nothing has changed on that front in the last few months from when they took over. That's the worst scapegoat I've heard.

Regardless of the whys...everyone who complained about Party being 'too much hip-hop':

You just got what you wanted...less hip-hop. Congrats! :D

That was lame, JVC. I read on another post that Party wasnt encoding PPM..if that's the case, then who's numbers are being credited to WNYZ? It's pretty obvious that NOBODY listened, and as stated before, the non-coming LPTV digital transition was a real crappy scapegoat. Look at the numbers!!

The December '09 figures are for the period were from Nov. 12-Dec. 9; November '09 figures are for Oct. 15-Nov.11. The ownership change occurred on Fri. Oct. 30, with the new format rolled out on Mon. Nov. 2. However, the "new/modified" WNYZ 87.7 signal wasn't PPM encoded until approximately Dec. 1 or 2. Thus it only had 8-9 days of measurement for the Dec. '09 rating period, & 16 days for Nov. '09, thus the lower figures for November & December '09. Admittedly, they probably would be near or below the October '09 figures above if the station could have been PPM encoded throughout the entire period.

So would a more accurate picture be to look at the January numbers (once released)?

Yes. I would prefer looking at a few books to get the truest picture, but we obviously will not be given that opportunity. The January book will be the only book that Party will be measured for the full length of the book on 87.7. I think they actually call it the Holiday book.
