The Passing Of Scott Jackson

I was sad to see in this morning's Commercial Appeal that longtime Memphis radio personality Scott Jackson has died at the age of 56.

Scott spent the majority of his career doing overnights at FM100. He also worked at WLOK using the name "Seventh Son."

I did weekends at FM100 in the early 80s, so I would run into him from time to time at staff meetings and when we were working adjacent airshifts. I covered for him on his vacations on at least five or six occasions.

FM100 PD Gary Guthrie affectionately dubbed him "EM3" (Scott's real name was Emmanual Minton III).

The last time I worked at FM100 was in the summer of 1984, and I haven't seen or talked with Scott since.

Maybe someone could post what he has been up to in recent years.

I knew him. He had a great voice. You would never picture the skinny guy he was when you heard his deep voice on the radio. Sorry to hear that he passed away. Nice guy. I don't know where he was or what he was doing during his last years.

> I have many fond memories of Emmanual Minton III aka Scott Jackson. I worked with him during my first tenure at FM100 from 1989-1996. He was a dedicated guy who carried the overnight shift at FM100 with grace and professionalism. I lost contact with him over the years, but my prayers and thoughts are with his family and many friends during this time of grief.

I agree with RR's comments. We engineers notoriously interfered with the overnight shift, but he was always friendly and helpful. Nice guy. He will be missed. <P ID="signature">______________

Started my career with the WMC family of stations in 1987. I will never forget how generous EM3 was with his time. I learned more from Scott, Henry Nelson, and all of my brothers at FM 100 than anyone in broadcasting. I feel like a part of my radio soul is missing today. ;-(
