I must admit that I am loving what WSTR, WWVA, WWWQ, and WVEE have become, all just within the past three months alone. I know many of the changes that have taken place on these stations are pretty subtle at the most to the average listener, and most people may not even notice any difference, but it is definitely a big deal to me.
I know I've been very critical of WWWQ in the past, WVEE to some degree, and most recently, WWVA. However, the truth is that I love these stations and I wouldn't waste any time critiquing any of them if they were stations I didn't believe in or know that could be better. I'm so glad that each one of these stations are not only putting in an effort to keep ratings up, but also to provide a more quality fun, feel good atmosphere in addition to taking more risks and providing a "decent musical flow playlist arrangement" with more variety - WHILE STILL doing what they must do on a business level. I especially love WWVA for the extra effort they put into making their station sound more live & fun (when they could easily cut all that out and just focus strictly on nothing but hit music and the basics), and although I may not always agree with some of the decisions made at WWVA, it's no secret that they are my favorite ATL station at the moment, and I can definitely see them being a success in time - IF given a chance.
WWWQ sounds just about perfect for the type of setting they are in, for a variety of reasons.
WWVA is DEFINITELY improving and providing something that ATL. has been missing out on.
When I was doing Dance Party Radio and providing certain things to certain stations or performed any gigs, I was EXTREMELY picky and over analytically detailed with my projects, and was even told I was "doing more than what was necessary" at times. Well, I am always that way with things I have a passion for, and I only critique because I have a passion for the type of thing(s) I talk about. I also don't compare stations to say anyone is particularly better than the other, but rather to show that if someone else is / other stations are SUCCESSFULLY doing something a little extra to provide a more funfilled atmosphere and experience, then it is only safe to assume that it should at least be considered on other stations (especially the ones most personal to you) that do not have those features, or that don't have as much as an intriguing "feel good feel" to them.
Just wanted to make that very clear because these days, anything people say online in forums, social networking sites...etc is taken SUPER-personally (and even acted upon to some degree), and any hint of bashing, condemning, or haterism is noticed or perceived 88% more than any love shown, or any underlaying love that may be hidden within the "hate speech". Sometimes "tough love" can be counterproductive, and the last thing I want to do is contribute to someone's "giving up" or the "well if they don't appreciate it, then..." feeling or attitude. Many of you may be thinking it's silly, but... IT SURELY DOES HAPPEN - much more than the person who hasn't seen or experienced it, thinks.
Anyway, good job, best wishes, and KEEP doing whatever it takes to be better than you really have to be.
This also goes for WSB - Newstalk & WGST.
2011 will surely be an interesting year...
