The Peak is a force to be reckoned with

I have been listening to radio in the Tri-Cities for a while now and am truly impressed with the direction 104.9 FM has taken in the last year. Program Director Daddy-O Dan Gibbons has really hit one out of the park with his music and air personalities. The Morning guy, Adam Allstin has mid-major market written all over him with a few more years experience and Brian Bischoff really shines in middays. Who among us hasn't taken a special joy when he reveals his everlasting love for "Nanner Puddin'"? He's a real stitch. And of course the star of the Peak Constellation, Bea Stevens. Wow, is she a breath of fresh air or what? I loved her tribute to Don Rickles when he shuffled off this mortal coil. Brilliant! All in all I'd say radio in the Tri-Cities has a new contender. I wouldn't be surprised if WXBQ and WQUT aren't looking up at them before long. Go ahead and "have a Peak" ::) for yourself!

Granted, The Peak is a unique station...quite different from the playlist on many "Jack" stations, but from what I've heard and the playlist I've seen online, it's more of a competitor with WTFM than any other station in the Tri-Cities.

Two points on the Peak...Alan Austin has always been the PD....And who are you kidding??? Not a good sounding station at all

I agree The Peak is an awesome station. It continues to get better as time goes along. Recently, they have added some 90's music to spice it up! But allow me to make some corrections to the first post in this discussion. It's Daddy-O Don Gibson, not Dan Gibbons, but he is not the program director at WKOS. The morning guy, Alan Austin (not Adam Allstin) is the Program Director and does a great job. The other on-air talent are Dee Stevens (not Bea), Brian Bishop (not Bischoff) and the latest addition J-Street! It's also true the station is more of a competitor for WTFM, not WQUT or WXBQ.

Sorry,
J-Street is a recent graduate of ETSU. Nothing much to write home about...

So Mr. Maddog. Do you keep a record of all ETSU broadcast students of the year since 1964? Those ASI picnics must be the highlight of your middleaged year.

Hey lookee, lookee, lookee, we got us a good old fashioned Cat-Fight! Ladies, please! J-Street, you seem like a pretty nice dude and all that, so I'm not crackin' your walnuts, but if Maddog1964 is who I think he is, you are playing with a live-wire! He has forgotten more about radio than any of the rest of us ???. In fact, I'll bet he's forgotten almost everything he ever knew. So look out "J" Street. What is "J" Street anyway? Is it a road in Elizabethton or is it some sort of wacked out Doobie reference? Are you a 8) Hippie "J" Street? Probably voted for Ralph Nader too.

Oh for god's sakes! Obviously, Mad Dog isn't who you "think he is." But I DO know who he is. I work with him and we were just giving each other a hard time, all in good fun. Too bad the rest you guys are so desperate for drama you have to start some of your own. I'm glad my life isn't that BORING! And I don't care who you are, I wish I was bright enough to steal catch phrases from famous comedians. Oh wait I am!... GIT-R-DONE!

J-Street,
How do you know I don't know who Maddog1964 is? Maybe I used to work with him in Boston in the eighties. Uh huh, I know who he is. That just blew your mind, didn't it? So don't tell me I don't know who he is. The question on everyone's lips is...who are you? If you are working with the Maddog then you obviously live (or at least work) in Kingsport. Now then...I know most of the folks that work in Kingsport. Steve Maine, Taylor Moore, Dave Burnette, Winnie Boyd, Scott Howland, Nicolette and Dustin Hale and, of course, the Maddog. I'm pretty sure you're not one of them...maybe Winnie, but I doubt it. So you must be in sales, or maybe you work on the T.V. side.
As far as stealing lines from famous comedians, try these on for size:
"Who are those people?"
"What's the deal with airplane food?"
"I just had my first kid, don't clap, my wife did all the work."
"Just flew in from Sheboygan and boy are my arms tired."
"...you might be a redneck."
"Take my wife, please!"
And my all time favorite,
"Boy I tell ya', I don't get any respect."

I absolutely love it when the children all come out to play!!!No matter what anyone says and /or how they say it..The Peak is NOT a good radio station.

Oh Sloppy, if you only knew what I do, you would be running for the closest closet to hide in because everyone is laughing at you. Sorry bud, one reason you don't know who I am is because you don't even know who MadDog is. Whatever or whoever you thought it was, you're wrong, live with it. He never lived in Boston either. So go back, do your homework and rework your entire thought process.

I am what WKRP was about. I am the real "Dr Johnny Fever". I'm not on the air anymore. The 70's were a turbulent time in my life and I'm still getting over it. Any of you kids over 40 remember Brother John at WOKI
in Knocksville. I was his mentor. I'm washed up now cause I hate automation. What ever happened to
vinyl. Can't find a turntable anywhere. Can't scratch a needle on a cd and get that sound. Ow! migraines. Time for an Advil. That J-Street is a nice boy. Got nice hair. At least he still has hair. Gotta go, I hear the nurse coming.

You Go Old Dog,
I am a young buck compared to the 70's jocks, but I still remember the use of vinyl (I still use it on the weekends) and cutting tape in minutes to get a phone sounder on the air. I have close to two decades on the air and with all due respect to some of the young jocks out there, they can't hold a candle (or a microphone) to you who actually deserve the Marconi. Most of the guys out today are nothing but liner readers and haven't had an original thought in years. Thank you for your service in the trenches Mad. Without the likes of you, we wouldn't be here. And I dare any of you rookies to argue with that, simply because you can't.
Let the diagreements begin,
The Spindoctor

Now that's what I'm talking about guys, good talk about the good ol' days. No more "I know him, don't tell me I don't because I do" or any of that meaningless squabling. For the record (no pun intended), I own vinyl records, Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Charlie Daniels, Alabama, even Beatles 45s but I inherited them an uncle or bought them at garage sales. The good ol' days for me are cassette tapes! Boy did those tapes suck! First one I bought was Meat Loaf, Bat Out of Hell I, but shh, don't tell anyone. I only wish the day of vinyl was my "good ol' days." Well I'm off to talk on the RADIO so play with the tuner, maybe you'll find out there I work. Once I'm done, I think I'll go comb my hair, Fabio would be jealous.

J-Street is yet another example of a way of thinking I don't understand. Why do young people always have to romanticize the past and say things like "I wish those were MY old days" ? I used to do the same thing. I used to wish that I had grown up like my grandad did, as a pioneer of the Smoky Mountains. Until I realized that as recently as the 1940's he was still [EDIT]and torn out pages from the Sears-Roebuck catalog. Ouch. It was a simpler time...Sure. [EDIT]we'rent better somehow because it was 1939. The same way that playing records back then, wasn't really better than touching a screen or mashing a button on the board. I agree there's "something" about vynyl that brings back that very nostalgic feeling. I wonder if there's anybody around that longs for the good old days of Laser Disc movies? I'm so itchin' to bust out my widescreen copy of FootLoose. And J-Street...Everybody here knows who you are. You don't have to keep dropping hints. We'll all here you push some buttons soon enough. ;) On a side note, I too admire your hair.

[EDIT-vulgarity]

Well shoot. I posted a reply to ya this morning, Turd, but apparently it is no more. That is disappointing. Well, it's not important enough to remember what all I said so I think I'll just go spend my precious hours combing my hair and looking at myself in the mirror. Good times, good times.
