The Pee Dee's Tom Brockway

I was forwarded this on my Facebook page. Once again, cancer has picked a fight with a true fighter.

Sending positive thoughts your way, Tom, you old coot. We'll lift a pint in your honor and drink plenty with you after you kick cancer's ass, bro.

"If you've been living in or around the Pee Dee then you know the familiar voice of DJ Tom Brockway. Since the 1980's Tom Brockway has been a constant presence on the radio airwaves throughout the Pee Dee and Myrtle Beach areas. Over the years he has been the top rated DJ on a variety of stations and dayparts. Including WAVE 104, Eagle 92.9, 103X and several others. Since 2006 Tom Brockway has been holding down the afternoon shift each weekday from 3PM to 7PM on Sunny 105.5. Currently out on a medical leave, Tom Brockway has been in and out of the hospital these last two months fighting cancer and other serious health issues. He is scheduled for major surgery next week at Duke Medical Center. He is then looking at several more weeks of convalescence before returning to the airwaves.

Please join Sunny 105.5 this Friday(5/28) from 11AM-7PM as we broadcast live from Indigo Joe's in Florence to benefit Tom. We will have plenty of great prizes and things to give away while we take your requests and accept donations to benefit Tom and his family. Indigo Joe's will be donating a portion of the proceeds from each special Tom Brockway Ham and Turkey sandwich sold to the Tom Brockway Benefit Fund! 100% of the funds collected will go straight to Tom and his family. We hope to see y'all this Friday!

Tom Get Well Soon! We Need You Back on the air ASAP!"

Further info:

If you couldn't be at Indigo Joe's, but would like to help with Tom's mounting expenses, please consider donating. Checks and credit card donations are being accepted on his behalf at the Qantum Communications offices in Florence.

Checks should be made out to:

Qantum Communications (memo: Tom Brockway)

...and sent to
Qantum Communications

Or they are accepting credit card donations during business hours via phone or if you come in.

Tom has done much over the years for his community, now, hopefully, the community will pay him back a little.

Tom and I were part of the team that built, launched, and took WAVE 104 from "worst to first." He is one of the industry's all time great characters. Hang in there, buddy. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Bob. It's true, you and Brockway were always HUGE thorns in our side over on Ocala. Radio these days just doesn't have that kind of respectful head to head competition much anymore. Please pass my well wishes to Tom. Tell him to hurry up and get well because I'm counting on competing against him again one day and I don't want to hear any excuses when it happens. ;)

Tom's cancer doesn't stand a chance against his cantankerous nature.

Yes, ol' Brockway was the first morning man on Sunny 106.5 when we first signed it on, those where the days!
Speedy recovery to back on the air Tom!!!!!

I worked with Tom in the 80s at WYAK, Big Yak Country. A super guy personally, funny as can be. He was great on the air and I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with him, both professionally and personally.

I know Tom well enough to be assured that he won't just roll over for ther Big C. He'll fight it and beat it, I'm convinced of it. Best of luck to a great old broadcasting compadre.

OMG! I hadn't heard that phrase in years! Somebody please "find Jerry" for Tom. I'm sure he'd know what to do!

Funny you should bring Tom up - he was on Eagle 92.9 today, sitting in for the vacationing Ed Palmer (3p-7p).

Word is that, though he's not 100%, he has had several hard-fought victories over a myriad of health issues, not the least of all was cancer.

Here's hoping that this is the start of his return back to the airwaves full-time - I hear that he's going to be on Eagle in the afternoon all week. Great news!
