The Phantom Gourmet on WTKK 96.9

I just wasted the past 3 hours of my life listening to The Phantom Gourmet on WTKK.COM The Andlemans think they are funny when they are not and they spent little time actually talking about food/restaurants on the show. Someone gives these guys a muzzle. And memo to the Grace Whatever-her-name is the PD of WTKK - find something better to air in this time slot! They had a stupid bit that aired during a commercial break poking fun of WBZ-FM being the 4th sports station, so the bit they did was a for a 5th Sports Station because Boston doesn't have enough options for sports fans. They came up with Balls 86.6 FM. Very freaking juvenile.

i think they should stick to tv even that can get annoying. wttk stinks overall as a station why are they even on arent they like 14th place?? get rid of these bums

3 hours? if you didn't like it after 1 segment why did you waste 3 hours of your life?

As for WTTK, I bet you'll find that Dave Andelman buys the time, or does some sort of revenue sharing .

It's not like the time slot they are in is prime time radio. If I had to take a guess if Dave wasn't buying the time it would be filled with a "best of" one of the local hosts, or someone syndicated. Just hard to justify the expense of live talent in a time slot that would, on it's own, not generate enough ratings to bill enough money to cover the direct expenses, let alone indirect labor and profit.

Same with Rich Shaffer, I bet he is either buying his time, or selling his own spots, or both.

Jimmy Meyers.... I bet they are paying him.

It doesn't do any good to complain to Blazer either. She doesn't care. Those three morons are so far over the line of good taste it isn't even funny. All I can compare it to is Junior High kids telling "fart jokes". It really is a pathetic, weak radio station overall.
The "Talent" is weak and uninformed and not capable of carrying on a serious conversation with any caller. Grace Blazer used to have her e-mail listed on the WTKK website - she had the link removed so she evidently doesn't want to be bothered.
A complaint to the toothless FCC might be in order - for what it's worth.

The FCC doesn't regulate programming -- only blatant and patent "indecency."

Going "over the line" doesn't constitute "indecency" unless proven. The FCC will be of no value unless a clear violation was made.

Keep in mind, there is no law or right against you NOT being offended. You do have the protection of "freedom of choice" in switching the on/off button or pushing the "scan" button. Leaving a station on for three hours is a waste of your life ... because you allowed it.

I wonder if Eddie was rebuffed by WBZ-FM.. sour grapes? I wouldn't have listened for 3 minutes, never mind 3 hours. Marc... it's summer.... get outside and turn off that crap :)

Dear oaktree
Thank you very much for your critique of my post and your lesson in how the FCC works - I am aware how it functions - Thus the Toothless reference.

Nowhere did I state I left the program on for three hours.
Please don't post to just critique my post. It reminds me of the old saying - why does a dog lick his _ _ _ _ S - because he can. Once again, thank you for telling my time is my own and I can do with it what I want.

Well, if you consider WBNW to be a Boston station, you could say that we already have five (or even six) sports stations: WEEI, WRKO (they carry most of the Sox games), WAMG, WWZN (five hours per day may M-F but more on weekends), WBZ-FM, WBNW (about as much sports nowadays as WWZN).

They sublease just like most weekend shows on WTKK and WRKO.

Uh, hey, Buick ... you need to read the thread better. The post wasn't about you or your post ... it was about MarcB above you who DID listen for 3 hours. I know this guy ... and know that what he said was pure him.

I didn't even reference you at all, because I didn't need to. But if the shoe fits ...

Thanks for your post.

I had that program on for some reason yesterday. One of the brother's voices is like finger nails on a chalk board. Other than that, I don't mind them. It's mindless chat on a Saturday afternoon. Three hours of talk about just restaurants would get old. I like how they mix in food talk with movies, touch on some pop culture, and just break eacho others balls. It's Saturday afternoon talk radio, what do you expect?

I just went back and re-read MarkB's's original post and nowhere in the post does he mention the FCC or "over the line". Since I did mention them in my post and you also referenced both in your reply I thought you were responding to me. In fact no other reply in the thread mentions either one. As to re-reading the post I think that.......oh never mind.....nuff said.

I apologize to other members of the board for this nonsense but I thought it deserved a reply.

Why did you listen to 3 hours if you hated it? That seems really bizarre.

It's mindless entertainment. But they need to rename the show. Phantom gourmet, really?

I'm sure relatives will chime in, taking great offense at this, but Costa and the Andelman's define (in my mind, anyway) the very definition of 'media hacks.' Tiresome retreads from other failed media assignments, these people can't be chased away with a stick. Now Mrs. Costa and Mrs. Andelman will come on here and get mad. Or something.

The supposed title for the dad's book --thought of by one of the kids-- is Multiple Sporgasims. I doubt the publisher will find it quite as hilarious as they did. And Nick Cafardo is involved in this?

The Andelmann brothers have their interesting moments but I find them so sexist that I can't listen for long. The unmarried one in particular thinks quite highly of himself and not very much of women in general.

The speculation that Rick Scaffer buys his time is interesting because I could never figure out how he keeps his job. He reminds me of Nicholas Fehn on SNL's Weekend Update who never finishes a thought. Rick will start a sentence and then veer sharply off-course and never make a concrete point. It's like listening to ADD in action. He also never let's his callers ask their question which makes me scream at my radio.

Schaffer's job is to pitch sponsors like SBLI to listeners which he does methodically with every other caller. He's a typical financial service/estate planning guy trying to upsell you products you don't really need or want.

I guess you need to look for new "appointment radio" on Saturdays now that "Ham Radio" is off the air...

I know that none of them are that old, but one of them has one of those obnoxious announcer-voices like he went to Announcer Voice School (CSB?) trying to get a job at a top-40 station circa 1970.

This is thread is (apparently unintentional) comedy gold...these are tough times...we need to find the laughs where we can find them.
