The phantom Port Neches' KBPO sold....

1150 KBPO was sold for $63,000 to Christian Ministries of the Valley. Good luck with this one, it's been dark since Rita. Obviously more trouble to rebuild than Vision Latina was willing to put into it.

As I wrote on the Texas Board -- the new buyer is getting nothing but a license best as I can tell (and paying too much for it).

KBPO will need everything including a new two tower array in Vidor and a studio somewhere. Construction costs will rise quickly.

Might have been smarter to buy KOLE or even 990 in Beaumont and rebuild it.

Rita blew through and knocked out KBPO (then KUHD) in September 2005 and they've been silent virtually ever since, except for brief periods when they used temporary fixes to keep their license. I believe it was CW (who's MIA on the boards) who said they had one set-up that consisted of a long-wire antenna strung up just a few feet off the ground, and FCC records contain one request from Vision Latina that they be allowed to operate with just 30 watts. They did receive an STA to operate with 163 watts but I don't think they ever were able to get to that level. As of now KBPO is listed as "licensed and silent," having filed for yet another silent STA extension back in March.

I agree that the buyer is wasting money; even at their licensed power of 500 watts day/60 night the pattern is a basic north/south figure-8 with Beaumont in the western null. On the other hand will the $63K Vision Latina gets cover all the engineering and legal fees they've incurred up until now?
