The Phillies on WEEU

I probably never heard a more exciting legal ID during a pxp broadcast quite like the one WEEU employed the last three Phillies seasons...

Echoey Harry Kalas voice: "That ball is outa heeerrree!"
WEEU vo man: "You're listening to Philadelphia Phillies baseball on 830 am WEEU Reading!"
"Gonnnnng" from Citizens Bank Park neon Liberty Bell"

This year though, 'EEU is using a bland Scott Frantke voiced id. I like Scott, but they should've kept the Harry the K/CBP bell id. Was it a three year contract with the Kalas estate?

My hunch is it was a decision by the team and not the estate as the team (or MLB) owns the recordings of team audio and video broadcast broadcasts of games.

I would not assume any agreement was reached between WEEU and any other party. This is a very small time station, and going through a whole contract process to use 4 seconds of audio seems unlikely.

I'd say more likely this was a production guy making something that sounded good without considering any rights agreements.

I assume you refer to the ID using Kalas' voice. If so, he just felt like making something sound *great*, and he did! Thanks, buddy, wherever you are.

With Pottsville's WPAM 1450 ('The Phoenix', Classic Rocker) dark for ten years and with fellow Pottsville AM facility WPPA cutting way back on it's day and night 1360 signals to go omni and feed their FM, WEEU is the loudest AM signal in Schuylkill county in the day and even at nights in some heavily populated parts of Schuylkill along its prime business aorta of Route 61. WEEU's sticks are now far closer to the County seat here of Pottsville than they are to their own Berks county seat of Reading.
Some here will know why they moved the towers off the Road to Nowhere. Land value, probably. For whatever reason(s) WEEU's move had in mind, even Philly's WPHT 1210, with its skywave signal cancellation reception, is no longer the nighttime Phillies baseball PBP station here.
Yeah, I'm only one person with a radio. And even a worse minority: a New Yorker by birth, lol. But when the Phillies play my Mets, I can get the PBP broadcast clearer than I ever could.
