The Pig Coming Back To Memphis?

he has a CP for 96.5 in Holly Springs and it won't cover Memphis. It's a Marshall county station and nothing more. 6kw @ 300ft sw of Holly Springs a few miles. Not sure if there is anything closer. He has others but that the closest one I know of.

How many times has it moved? lets see. First in Tunica, then 107.5, then 1210AM, then channel 6 audio. This station refuses to die. What next shortwave?

It's just what Flinn uses till someone leases a station or they come up with something else in house to do. Stations always have more value if they are turned on.

It was on 101.1 in Little Rock also for a while.

So, I suppose if nothing changes with this Holly Springs signal on 96.5 that it would have trouble reaching Collierville and Oxford.

I took a quick look at the Technical Exhibit on the application. Moving into Memphis? Now, that would be a tough one.

As it sits, it's only 4 Km clear from 96.3 in Blytheville. Moving toward Memphis would also cause issues with WHRK and 96.5 in Clarksdale.

I would never say that moving a station is IMPOSSIBLE, but moving this one would be a problem, indeed.

Oh, and as to the coverage question...

The 1 mV/m (60 dBu) contour misses Collierville and Oxford by 5 or more miles. Sure, you'll be able to hear it in cars, etc., but it will be far from being a competitive signal.

The transmitter site is in the woods, SW of Holly Springs -- doubtless to make it fit. The City Grade won't quite cover all of Holly Springs.

Thanks for looking that stuff up. I figured that maybe it could catch the eastern part of Shelby County, where a lot of people live. If household radios can't pick the station up in Collierville, then it's not getting to any real populated areas. I didn't ask about Olive Branch, but I don't think the signal would reach that far.

Or perhaps 560AM. Doubtful since that station seems to have a lot of local mostly college-oriented sports talk. Perhaps Flinn should have chosen a CAT instead of a Pig but that would have potentially infringed Eveready's or that cat food brand's trademark (9 Lives).

The 60 dBu barely encompasses Byhalia.
