The Point Gone for Good?

It has been a week now, 106.9 HD-2 is silent.

It was gone for two weeks, came back briefly, now it is gone again - along with 107.5 HD-2 oldies. If this were their main signal, how long would it be before they took action and fixed it? This is the main reason why HD radio will ultimately fail in the marketplace. It is not reliable. When it goes out, nobody fixes it. If the station has listeners to only the HD-2 format, who don't care about the main format - they will not be back.

I can get it again - the car with HD radio was in the shop yesterday - I still have a broken antenna. Just because the radio gets strong local stations doesn't mean the antenna is good - especially if AM barely works at all. The curious thing is FM is almost normal, except HD drops more than normal and of course 103.5 is much harder to get. So if HD works at all with a broken antenna, it must be fairly robust. HD-2 drops are much more apparent to the listener than HD-1 which falls to analog. But until stations commit to making HD as reliable as their main channel, the system is doomed in the marketplace due to bad word of mouth and social media.

Rage, it this was Facebook I'd hit the LIKE button! :)

Thanks Joe. BTW The HD2 is down AGAIN! I had tuned in yesterday and the digital was out completely. A few hours later it was back up but only the main channel. Noticed today HD2 was up but silent. Why even bother turning it back on

Message to Cox. Just shut it off for good. It's unreliable. Use the additional bandwidth for HD1.

Really. Off for two weeks, on for 2 weeks, now off again? Would Cox run the main channel like that? Are they stunting silence on HD-2 in preparation for something else on there? Would that something else be any more reliable (I doubt it).

Those Cox suckers are stunting a new format on HD. It's called 'The Sound of Silence'. If it does well in the ratings, it may make it to the main signals as well .
