The Point is Back!

Hey, Point fans! The Point is back in Houston! The frequency? 106.9HD2. You cannot stream it, as with all Cox HD stations. I'm disappointed Cox got rid of Pat FM. They totally shafted The Zone listeners, flipping 90s Alternative and now flipping Pat FM. Thanks Cox!

After all the Buzz about the Zone, for Cox to completely wipe out any vestige of the format seems odd to me. They are as clueless in Houston as they are in other markets.

Who is it broadcasting to? Not too many people own an HD radio

If you really like The Point, it may be worth it to purchase one. For years I complained because Emmis flipped Mega, but once it became available on HD, I shelled out the $150 so that I could listen to Mega while driving from Austin to San Marcos every other day.

I have always been fascinated by Corporate Radio’s love of H-D Radio. I understand the quality is better on the H-D1 channels, but the other stuff is just a joke. H-D radio been the most promoted thing on radio (some stations were running two promos an hour all day to promote this technology) and still nobody wants it. And they say “Radio Works”.

Has anyone made a dime of their secondary H-D signals? Has a secondary H-D radio station shown up in the ratings (more than a one time blip)? Is anyone surprised?

Most secondary H-D signals are just simulcasting other radio stations programming. Soon all cars will have access to the internet anyway and we’ll all be listening to streaming radio (whether it be a local station’s stream, something like Pandora, or something else)

I guess my question is; “What’s the Point”?

From a listener's standpoint, I'm happy that HD radio exists. It gives the listener more options. If you were upset when The Point flipped back in January, well, guess what? It's back. All you have to do is shell out a one time fee of $150 and it's yours.

If you want to listen to KTRH with FM quality (93.7HD3), you can with an HD Radio. If you want to access a 24-hour dance station (95.7HD2), HD Radio gives you that option. With an HD Radio, I don't have just one Alt Rock station, I have three (94-5HD1, 94-5HD2, and 104-1HD2). You can also access two additional country stations. If you like the Smooth Jazz format, there are not one, but two to choose from (96-5HD2, 99-1HD2), and so on.

More options, my friend, is "The Point."

I've already moved to internet radio off my phone played through a transmitter.

Cox is what it sucks

I spent 8 hours replacing the low end stock radio in my Cobalt LS so I can get AUX IN and a newly legal subscription to SIRIUS.

The next day, the radio was stolen from my work van. They managed to remove the rear window without breaking it. Amazingly, the only damage caused was the loss of the $60 radio and the cost of reattaching the window, which I could probably do myself.

In regards to their compressed signal: if "Lithium" is spinning something better than FM, I'll forget the fact temporarily that the quality reminds me of streaming "KRBE" through RealAudio back in the 90's as a little kid. I think my fascination with listening to the radio over the internet exposed me to a lot of late 90's music and subconsciously formed my musical tastes to develop later.

I'll rephrase the question: Has an HD-2 radio signal, broadcasting without the assist of an FM translator, let alone an Internet stream, ever showed up in the ratings?

I wonder why CC does not put KPRC on a sub (HD) channel on one of it's stations. I would really like to hear American Top 40 with good audio.

Old Chicago

I'm enjoying the variety on the "Point" re-incarnation. I wonder what would be now be playing on 106.9 (analog) frequency had this been the "original" Point.
